Back when I was a wee lad, my grandmother brought me to the local Electronics Boutique and I was told to pick out a game for my brand new, still in the box NES. I browsed the shelves, and ended up going home with DuckTales
(Woo-hoo!), which was based off of the afternoon cartoon of the same name. DuckTales
(Woo-hoo!), for you young'uns out there, was a cartoon that followed Scrooge McDuck (Donald's miserly uncle) and his adventures with his pilot, Launchpad and nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. Later episodes introduced Gizmoduck and eventually spun-off another series, Darkwing Duck
, which also had a cartoon and 8-bit NES game! Today at PAX East, Capcom shocked the world by announcing that the 8-bit classic would be getting remastered and given an HD update as DuckTales Remastered
(WOO-HOO!) for the Xbox LIVE Arcade. .
I'm not the only one that feels nostalgic over this title, as the reveal trailer begins with quotes from industry legends about the impact that the original DuckTales
had on their careers. Take a moment, enjoy and if you're like me, you will sing along:
Here's a side-by-side shot from the original 8-bit game to the remastered HD graphics:
Perhaps even more importantly than Scrooge McDuck sporting the right color on his jacket, Capcom announced that the supporting characters of Launchpad and Scrooge's nephews will be making full-fledged cameos. Every original voice actor still alive today has also returned to reprise their roles from the cartoon, including Alan Young, the voice of Scrooge McDuck.
Enjoy a few more screenshots and start pacing in a circle as the world waits impatiently for an official release date.
