Next week marks the release of Defiance
, Trion Worlds' shooter that is symbiotically intertwined with the SyFy show of the same name. If you've been following our extensive preview coverage
, you'll already be in the loop as to what you can expect from gameplay (especially if you got in on the Beta), but the question remains: How are the achievements?
Fortunately and as always, we've got you covered.
For starters, Defiance
has 50 achievements and all of them are gloriously exposed for our examination. Within those pops, you'll have your standard achievements for completing Acts and Co-Op maps, as well as a few for completing "pursuits". Amongst the rest, there are some that are very interesting and worth a closer look.
Kicking things off is an achievement that jumped off the page.
EGO isn't just a term coined by Freud and running rampant through Hollywood, it's going to be essential to your success in Defiance
... especially when achievements are concerned, as seven of the fifty achievements concern perks and EGO.
I don't know about you guys, but I like making things go, "Boom!" With that being said, the next achievement should pique your interest along similar lines.
I don't care what game you're playing, "legendary weapons" are always cool and tend to make things go, "Boom!"
The only possible qualm I have with this next achievement is that it doesn't mention "Good Ol' Boys", "Bo & Luke", or "General Lee".
I don't want to tell Trion Worlds how to name their achievements (although I do tend to do that on these soapboxes), but they missed the prettiest name this side of Daisy by not jumping on a Dukes
This next achievement will forever be near and dear to my heart.
The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks of the west coast of the United States. Not only is it majestic and beautiful, but I also proposed to Mrs. obj within sight of it... and Alcatraz... the irony is not lost on either of us.
Finally, and most importantly, here is your ratio-champion, white whale.
While I generally abhor these achievements as cheap and highly bug-prone, they always give the tastiest ratios.
In addition to "Legend of Defiance", other high-value achievements look to be: Widely Regarded
(Get max reputation with Von Bach Industries, Soleptor Enterprises, Top Notch Toolworks and Echelon), EGOcentric Arkhunter
(Reach EGO Rating 2500), and Calculated Killer
(Kill 10,000 enemies).
Trion Worlds has built a game that they hope will stay relevant for the long-haul here, but is it enough to convince you to pick it up when it drops next week on April 2nd?
If there's an upcoming game that you'd like to see featured in the Achievement Preview Spotlight, be sure to let us know in the comments!
