TA Gaming Stats - April 1st to April 7th 2013

By Chewie, 3 years ago
This report is for the period April 1st to April 7th 2013.

Here are the Stats for the first week of April here on TA. Spring is upon us and my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, and I have been starting to shed our Winter coats, leaving trails of fur in our wake. Some of the Statisticles have taken it upon themselves to create fur gloves and booties from the remnants in the hope of selling them online, but I've had to inform them that no one wants to buy fur accessories that are matted with blood and faeces. Other Statisticles have taken the more dedicated and productive angle of counting and cataloguing all the fur and putting them into neatly categorised piles. I'm extremely tempted to gleefully run through the piles, kicking them and sending the fur flying in all directions, then watching their little eyes tear up.

Games Started
31,984 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 47,511 games between them (1,861 different games).

In its second week BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360) manages to retain the top spot on Retail Games Started. It does lose over 12,000 starters (around three quarters) from last week's numbers, but with over 4,000 it still manages to take in more starters than most games get in their release weeks. The only new release of the week to make the table is open world MMO, SyFy TV show tie-in, Defiance, which garners over 3,000 starters and a solid second place position. The other new release of the week was Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, which bundles together all of the content for http://www.trueachievements.com/Ninja-Gaiden-3/achievem....htm and adds in a heap of additional features. Despite the recognisability of the franchise however, the game doesn't do enough to make it onto the tables.

The two other biggest releases of the last few weeks, Gears of War: Judgment and Tomb Raider, settles into third and fourth places, both with over 1,000 starters. Last week's new release, Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel, makes a bigger drop from third to fifth and losing over 1,000 from its numbers in the process. With last week's number six, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14, dropping from the table entirely, Far Cry 3 manages to regain a place on the table, clawing ahead of The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct in the process.

Last week, new release Terraria (Xbox 360), lost out on its deserved top spot on Arcade Achievements Won thanks to a sale on the super popular The Walking Dead (Xbox 360). This week, although the undead adventure title manages to pull in high numbers of over 1,000 starters again, new release BattleBlock Theater, manages to relegate its second place. It takes in over 1,800 starters, less than 100 than Terraria did last week. Speaking of that title, it drops to third place and loses nearly 1,000 starters, settling at just over 950.

Six of the seven remaining places on the chart are there thanks to two popular sales. The Microsoft Publisher Sale gives us four out a possible twelve discounted titles; Mark of the Ninja, Deadlight, Trials Evolution and Dust: An Elysian Tail, with each getting between 270 and 560 starters. Out of nine Arcade games on sale as part of the Deal of the Week, only two make the chart; Retro City Rampage in eighth with 330 starters and Pool Nation in tenth with 230.

Top Arcade Games Started

Three new releases take spots on Windows Phone Games Released this week, with Rovio's Amazing Alex (WP) claiming first with over 330 starters, Vampire Rush (WP) in sixth with 85 and Ms. Splosion Man (WP) in eighth with only 60.

Last week's EA Sale had a big impact on the chart, taking six spots on the table. This week's Microsoft Publisher Sale takes four places, with Gerbil Physics (WP) proving by far the most popular in second with 270 starters. Z0MB1ES (on teh ph0ne) (WP) follows in third with nearly 190 starters, whilst Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles HD (WP) and ilomilo (WP) take fourth and fifth with between 120 and 150 starters.

Games Completed
7,801 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,781 games between them (1,265 different games).

With so many players hooked by its enthralling story and eagerly replaying the game in its harder "1999 Mode", it's no surprise that Bioshock Infinite takes the top spot on Retail Games Completed for a second week. It nearly quadruples its number of completions from 210 to 830 and currently the overall percentage of players who have finished it has risen from 4 to 6%. Last week's other new release, Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel, also improves its numbers, over doubling the completions to 220 and jumping from tenth to second place.

With the previous week's Rockstar Sale seeing discount on all the DLC for the game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sees its completions jump to 170 and give it a third place position. Even though it contains no achievements, the extra features of the "Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack" for Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360) has lured enough players back to finish the game and give it fifth place position with over 120 completions.

Top Retail Games Completed

Like last week with Terraria, this week's new release, BattleBlock Theater, doesn't make the table on Arcade Games Completed. This is in part due to some particularly difficult achievements related to Insane difficulty, and in part due to a currently unobtainable achievement. The easiest of this week's sale titles, Deadlight, jumps into third place with 100 completions and last week's sale title, Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, takes tenth place with 45 completions. The rest of the table is made up of the usual suspects, with The Walking Dead growing its completions by almost 300 to nearly 800 after the boost in numbers following the recent sale.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Continuing its reign at the top of Windows Phone Games Completed for the third week running, Shark Dash (WP) retains the top spot, despite nearly halving its number of completions from 110 to 60. Last week's sale and big completion title, Monopoly (WP), retains its number two position, despite over halving its completions to 50. Two of this week's sale titles, Gerbil Physics and ilomilo make the table in third and eighth. Amazing Alex proves considerably less grindy than Rovio's Angry Birds titles, with over 25 players completing it in its release week, putting it in sixth.

Achievements Won
75,561 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 964,403 achievements online between them (49,172 different achievements).

Bioshock Infinite takes another clean sweep on Retail Achievements Won with the most popular of these being late story achievements, including Tin Soldier for completing the game on Easy. Three achievements are cumulative for picking locks, opening tears and killing Heavy Hitters. The final one, Should Auld Acquaintance... is for unlocking the aforementioned "1999 Mode". I wonder if the achievement for completing it will ever make the table.

Top Retail Achievements Won

BattleBlock Theater takes the top five spots on Arcade Achievements Won thanks to a selection of easy achievements. Four "Episode One" achievements for The Walking Dead take the next four spots, but a single achievement for Terraria manages to sneak into tenth place.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Two physics-based puzzle games share the spots on Windows Phone Achievements Won, with Amazing Alex taking the top two spots, as well as fifth and seventh, and Gerbil Physics fitting into the other six spots on the table. I played and finished Gerbil Physics myself this week and it gave me the strong desire to recreate the game on a grand scale using Statisticles in cages and sticks of dynamite. Oh the fun we would have, despite the 0% success rate per level.

Shooter's significant lead over Action-Adventure is lessened slightly this week on Genre, as it loses 4million and drops to 12million, but still has almost double the figures of its competitor. Role-Playing gets a boost of almost 1million thanks to Defiance, but it's still not enough to break into the top two. The rest of the table reads exactly the same as last week, with the only other slightly significant change in numbers being Platformer doubling from 350,000 to 650,000 thanks to BattleBlock Theater

That's all for now. Keep an eye out for the Stats article for the whole of March on the front page soon, but for now I've got some Statisticles to shower in their own fur and tears.
