Batman: Arkham Origins Announced

Licensed titles are always a murky business in games. Typically, the titles they produce aren't great, though you do get some gems. When people speak of the best licensed titles, Warner Bros.' Batman: Arkham Asylum (Xbox 360) and Batman: Arkham City (Xbox 360) almost always come to mind, as they are both top-quality representatives of all things good with gaming.

Of course, no one wants a good thing to end, and Warner Bros. doesn't intend to finish the Batman series with only two games, so earlier today they announced the upcoming third installment in the franchise, Batman: Arkham Origins.

Much like the recently released Tomb Raider, Batman: Arkham Origins presents us with an origin story for our masked hero. It takes place several years before Arkham Asylum and "showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight". You'll also get to witness Batman's first interactions with several key characters in the Batman universe.

In a departure from previous games, Arkham Origins will not be developed by Rocksteady, but instead by WB Games Montreal. The developer's Vice President and Executive Producer for the game, Reid Schneider, shared his thoughts on taking over game development.

WB Games Montréal is honoured to have the opportunity to create Batman: Arkham Origins, a new chapter in this amazing franchise. We are huge fans of the franchise and are committed to creating an experience that offers players more of what they love, as well as the chance to play as a younger Batman within a fresh storyline and expanded world.
Batman: Arkham Origins will be released worldwide on October 25th, 2013. We'll be sure to bring you more details on the game as they become available.
