Ubisoft Announce Flashback Remake Coming to XBLA

Back in 1992, French developer Delphine Software released Flashback (also known as Flashback: The Quest for Identity in the United States), a science fiction platform game that follows the story of amnesiac Galaxia Bureau of Investigation Agent Conrad B. Hart as he strives to save humanity from an invasion of alien shape-shifters, known as Morphs, whose goal is to enslave all of mankind.

Known for its distinctive rotoscoped animation style similar to that of the original Prince of Persia, Flashback was a huge critical success and was even listed in the Guinness World Records as the best-selling French game of all time.

Now, 20 years after the game's original release, Ubisoft have announced that a remake of Flashback is currently in development from VectroCell and will be a HD re-imagining, rather than a reboot, powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine. The story will remain largely unchanged with all the characters from the original returning alongside some new faces, while the gameplay is said to be more accessible and will feature platforming segments that are less demanding than that of the original.

Flashback does not currently have a firm release date but is due to be released through XBLA sometime this summer.
