This report is for the period April 29th to May 5th 2013
Welcome to the Stats for the very end of April into the beginning of May. This week sees a distinct slump when it come to Retail releases following the glorious big numbers of the last couple of months, but we make up for it a bit with a decent release on Arcade and a classic rereleased on Windows Phone. Because of the dip in numbers following the boon of the last few weeks, my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles have crashed out like kids after a sugar rush. They're all lying around, despondently holding their heads in their hands and weeping. Although that could also be down to the experimental nerve gas I've been pumping into the office to improve performance.Games Started
26,669 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 38,751 games between them (1,861 different games).
Not one new release makes the table this week on Retail Games Started, meaning that overall it looks very similar to last week, with Dead Island Riptide (Xbox 360)
taking the top spot with 1,500 starters (less than half the week before's numbers), above the previous week's Injustice: Gods Among Us
, with BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360)
Losing two thirds of its starters from last week, Star Trek
slides four places to eighth with 330 starters.
Just as I was saying that it was about to finally drop from the table last week, Far Cry 3
defies me and leaps from ninth to fifth and adds an extra 100 starters to its numbers; though this position is helped by the lack of new releases.Top Retail Games Started
After the dominant success of last week's new release, Telltale Games' Poker Night 2
, another new release easily takes the top spot this week on Arcade Achievements Won. In my eyes, the 80s-style Arcade spin-off, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon
, is a gloriously fun romp through B-movie territory that lovingly riffs off the best period in 'so bad they're great' action movies. It seems that many of you feel the same way as over 4,100 of you took a nostalgia trip with Michael Biehn's Sgt. Rex Power Colt to take down some Blood Dragons.
Another week, another Arcade-filled Deal of the Week fills up the table. This week gives us the likes of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD
in fourth, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX
in sixth, From Dust
in eighth and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
in ninth.Top Arcade Games Started
With the release of Angry Birds Classic (WP)
to Windows Phone 8 devices, nearly 900 of you flung yourself at the chance to play through all the levels previously released on other platforms, especially when it came for the cheap price of free. It comfortably takes the lead on Windows Phone Games Started and is the only new release of the week. Previous new releases, Ice Age Village (WP)
and Cut the Rope: Experiments (WP)
, both pull in around 200 starters in second and third, with Cut the Rope: Experiments
losing over 500 starters from the previous week.
This week's Deal of the Week title, Farm Frenzy 2 (WP)
, takes fourth place with nearly 160 starters, around 60 less than last week's deal title, Mush (WP)
, which also appears this week in sixth. Although I don't believe they were still free by this point, the four Miniclip games Fragger (WP)
, iStunt 2 (WP)
, Monster Island (WP)
and Gravity Guy (WP)
, continue to be popular starters in fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth. No doubt many of these starters downloaded the games when they were free and only just got round to starting them. That, or they really
missed out.Top Windows Phone Games StartedGames Completed
7,573 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,741 games between them (1,293 different games).
Keeping Bioshock Infinite
from reclaiming the top spot on Retail Games Completed, Dead Island Riptide
proves easy enough for it to take the top spot with 340 completions.
Recent DLC still give Assassin's Creed III
, Halo 4
and Forza Horizon
a boost in third, fourth and seventh.Top Retail Games Completed
Like the best of the 80s action movies, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon
also isn't exactly challenging as it sits pretty at the top of Arcade Games Completed. Exactly 800 TAers completed it in its debut week and it currently stands at 30% of players having finished it. With Telltale Games' Poker Night 2
also grabbing decent completions in second, The Walking Dead (Xbox 360)
is finally kept further down the table. Take that!
Two of the sales titles make appearances on the chart, with Pac-Man CE DX
in fifth and Hell Yeah! WotDR
in eighth; two games which always appear when they're on offer.Top Arcade Games Completed
Although apparently not as tediously grindy as the previous outing, Angry Birds Classic
doesn't take a place on Windows Phone Games Completed yet due to the sheer volume of levels available in the new title that need to be three-starred and no one having finished it yet. Instead we get a table with Cut the Rope: Experiments
again on top, above a couple of the Miniclip titles, last week's Deal of the Week (Mush
), and old easy favourites.Top Windows Phone Games CompletedAchievements Won
65,025 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 716,863 achievements online between them (50,765 different achievements).
After being denied it last week by Assassin's Creed III
, Dead Island
takes the clean sweep on Retail Achievements Won this week, thanks more to a lack of new releases than anything.Top Retail Achievements Won
Being very popular and pretty easy means that Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon
dominates over Arcade Achievements Won like Sgt Colt dominates over a Blood Dragon...which is also your mum...in the face. That wasn't quite as snappy as I intended.Top Arcade Achievements Won
Interestingly enough, the table for Windows Phone Achievements Won is split evenly between two titles that are part of probably two of the biggest name franchises in mobile gaming: the five easiest achievement for Angry Birds Classic
take the top five spaces, whilst Cut the Rope Experiments
settles for the bottom five.Top Windows Phone Achievements Won
Although Shooter remain steady around the 6.5million mark at the top of Genre this week, a drop of 400,000 sees Action-Adventure almost slip below Role-Playing. As it is though, it manages to hold onto second place. Barely. With the lack of new Retail releases, rest of the table reads almost identically to last week's.Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
I'd say tune in next week for more exciting numbers, but I'd be lying as again the release schedule looks a little barren. Instead tune in next week to continue to read the rambling a of a mad man who enjoys torturing cute little bears amidst a cloud of tables and numbers.
