The Fallen part of the title refers to the Fallen God, and the opposing factions that either follow or resist this Fallen God; two deeply divided worlds. You play as the human Harkyn and your actions not only shape your character but also the world around you.

Tomasz Gop, a former senior producer for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, is heading up the development and had this to share about the epic nature of Lords of the Fallen:

Our team is building Lords of the Fallen specifically for players who enjoy taking on huge challenges, where the odds are stacked against them. From the very beginning, Lords of the Fallen will intrigue and satisfy players’ hunger to explore each corner of a brand new world, freely customize and build their own character and take down some of the most epic enemies ever seen.
It's hard to really wrap your head around something without seeing it in action, but we'll be able to do just that, as Lords of the Fallen will be presented live at this year's E3 conference in June. Lords of the Fallen is now slated for a 2014 release.
