Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 E3 Trailer

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is a sequel that starts from the point at which the epilogue in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow finished. If you thought that the story in Lords of Shadow was dark, Game Director Enric Alvarez promises that its successor will be even darker and more cruel.

Dracula has been resurrected but he is weakened and has lost his powers. Dracula isn't the only thing to return to Earth though; Satan has also returned to bring an apocalypse to Earth in revenge for his defeat. To defeat Satan, Dracula must make a pact with Death. Once his enemy is defeated, Dracula will finally be released from his immortal bonds and gain eternal rest. Unfortunately, there is a catch. The Belmont clan are also intent on slaying Dracula to unlock the past behind their ancestry. Who will succeed?

Due to the game's starting point, Lords of Shadow 2 is being brought into a modern day setting. Although Dracula still has his castle (where would he be without it?) players will also get to see Dracula in a huge modern city. Once he regains his abilities, Dracula will have access to three new powers. Enemies will have shields and armour, so Dracula will need to use his Chaos Claws to break down those defences, and then use his Blood Whip or Void Sword to finish them off. Konami's Studio Head Dave Cox promised that the combat has been tweaked to feel tighter, more strategic, more tactical and, most importantly, more spectacular.

The Mercury Game engine has been adapted to account for the new era in which the story takes place. The game's world will grow "organically" as opposed to the usual level-to-level approach. Players will be able to travel freely all over the game's universe without loading times. The game will also implement a free camera that can be turned 360o by the player, instead of a fixed camera angle. Unsurprisingly, the graphics will also be improved.
