Ryse: Son of Rome Screenshots and Features

By Dog of Thunder,
Crytek's Xbox One title, Ryse: Son of Rome, has had a bumpy road in development. What was once supposed to be a lunach title for the Kinect, is now making an exclusive appearance on the Xbox One. At yesterday's E3 press conference, Crytek pulled back the curtain and revealed the newly re-tooled and re-designed Ryse: Son of Rome to the world.

In Ryse: Son of Rome, players take control of Marius Titus, a Roman soldier that joined the army to avenge the slaying of his family by the blades of barbarian hordes. Marius' journey takes him from Rome to Brittania and back again as he leads the Roman forces against the barbarians at the gate. The two-player cooperative mode has a fancy description in the press release discussing teaming up with a friend in the Coliseum to take on hordes of enemies. Which means that yes, Ryse: Son of Rome has a horde mode.

As was expected given the nature of Ryse: Son of Rome beginning life as a Kinect-required title, it will support Kinect-integration on the Xbox One. You can issue vocal commands to your troops while hacking and slashing using the controller. That's nothing groundbreaking at this point in the Kinect's lifecycle, but Ryse: Son of Rome promises to utilize Microsoft's SmartGlass in new ways.

Using the SmartGlass, gamers can launch the game directly into the campaign. While playing, SmartGlass can be used to record gameplay footage and send it directly to your friends. Your character's stats, inventory and upgrades can all be managed directly from SmartGlass. Finally, achievement hints and tips will be displayed on your SmartGlass and synch to whatever location of the game you happen to be in at the time.

The following screenshots show the SmartGlass integration in action.
