San Diego's Comic-Con is now underway and will run until Sunday. The convention is usually host to a few surprises and one of those was the sudden release of Halo: Spartan Assault on both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.

Halo: Spartan Assault (WP) currently requires 1GB of RAM to run the game. Those of you with 512MB of RAM will unfortunately have to wait until an unspecified date in August before being able to download a compatible version. Players within the US will also need to be a Verizon Wireless customer if they wish to download the title now; otherwise, US players will need to wait until August 16th before the exclusivity contract ends and the game will become accessible to players using other networks. There is no exclusivity contract in other regions. Players outside of the US can download the title now regardless of whichever network provider you use. The title can be downloaded from here.

Halo: Spartan Assault (Win 8) has no restrictions on distribution or use. The title is available worldwide and can be downloaded from here.

Halo: Spartan Assault brings the excitement of Halo combat to touch-based devices for the very first time. Battle your way through 25 action-packed missions against the Covenant as you explore the origin of the Spartan Ops program and Halo 4's Spartan Commander, Sarah Palmer.

Earn Xbox achievements, complete mission and weekly challenges, unlock new customizations for your Halo 4 career, and compete against your friends for the top scores in the leaderboards.

It's time to join the assault, Spartan!
The title costs $6.99 / £4.99 on both platforms.
