had a successful Premium package, which involved early access to all five DLC packs and exclusive challenges and soldier perks. It should have come as no surprise that the upcoming Battlefield 4
will also have a Premium package. What may surprise people is that the package has launched today.
"Battlefield 4™ Premium" offers players access to five future DLC packs. The first pack, "Battlefield 4 Second Assault", will include four re-imagined Battlefield 3
maps, each recreated on the new Frostbite 3 game engine. This pack is available first on the Xbox One, although no release window has been suggested. The second pack is the previously mentioned "Battlefield 4 China Rising", where players battle across mainland China. Players who pre-order the title will receive a code for this DLC pack anyway, although the content will not be available for download until December 2013.
The next three packs aren't scheduled for arrival until 2014. "Battlefield 4 Naval Strike" sees China's armada take the battle from land to water and places players in the middle of "dynamic ocean combat". This pack will be available in Spring 2014. The US retaliates in "Battlefield 4 Dragon’s Teeth" where the fight takes on an "all-out urban warfare" vibe. Finally, "Battlefield 4 Final Stand" concludes the war. Both of the latter packs will be released in Summer 2014.
Of course, players who had purchased "Battlefield 3 Premium" were able to gain early access to all of the five DLC packs. "Battlefield 4 Premium" is no exception. Premium players will receive early access for two weeks before the DLC is released to the masses. They will also get priority position in server queues, meaning that Premium players won't have to wait as long to enter a game, and access to exclusive Premium events.
If that isn't enough, there will be exclusive content too. DICE is promising that new content will be arriving on a weekly basis. Camos, paints, emblems and dogtags are amongst the unique personalization options that will be available, and players will receive 12 bonus Battlefield 4
Battlepacks. These packs contain random combinations of camos, dog tags, knives, XP boosts, and gun attachments to go alongside those that players will earn in-game.
There is more content to be announced in the future but, for now, take a look at the trailer that accompanied this announcement.
"Battlefield 4™ Premium" costs 4000 MSP and can be downloaded from here
. It should come as no surprise that, despite today's release, the content will not be available until Battlefield 4
is actually released. Players who purchase the Premium membership now but then decide to buy the game on the Xbox One need not panic. As we revealed last week
, Premium membership can be transferred from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One at no extra cost.
Maybe you would like another look at the multiplayer gameplay before deciding on a purchase? Well, EA and DICE have taken the opportunity to also announce a new multiplayer game mode. Obliteration tasks players with defending three team objectives. In the centre of the map is a bomb, which must be grabbed and taken to the enemy's objectives where it must be detonated. Once one of the objectives is destroyed, another bomb will spawn. Teams must destroy the enemy's three objectives before the enemy destroys your three objectives. This mode will support 32 players on the Xbox One but will only support 24 on the Xbox 360. The game mode was in evidence through the Gamescom trailer that showcased a brand new map. Paracel Storm is a series of small islands set in the South China Sea. Watch how the new levolution system changes the battle environment courtesy of a fairly large battleship.
Players will even get to try out the multiplayer before Battlefield 4
is released. Starting in early October, a beta will feature the Siege of Shanghai map in the returning Conquest mode. The beta is available on the Xbox 360 and will initially be exclusive to owners of "Battlefield 3 Premium" and owners of Medal of Honor: Warfighter
Limited Edition. However, after three days, the beta will then become available for all gamers.Battlefield 4
is due to be released on the Xbox 360 on October 29th in North America and on November 1st in Europe. The game has been confirmed to be a launch title for the Xbox One, although we are yet to receive a release date for the console.
