Raven's Cry Gets a New Developer

By Rebecca Smith, 3 years ago
Most have you have probably forgotten about Vendetta: Curse of Raven's Cry. The 16th century pirate-themed third-person action-adventure title was first announced back in June 2011 and little has been heard about it since then. After missing its first release window of Q4 2012, followed by the second release window of Q1 2013, we weren't entirely sure if the game would ever see the light of day. Publisher Topware Interactive generally doesn't release a lot of media for their upcoming titles; in fact, we hadn't heard from any of their four upcoming titles for well over a year. In a rare move, the publisher has broken its silence to reveal that the game has now gotten a new developer, something that is likely to explain the delay in releasing this title.

The game was previously in the hands of Octane Games, a developer known only for the PC vehicular shoot 'em up title Wasteland Angel. Nothing had been heard from them since June 2012 and development of Raven's Cry wasn't progressing as hoped. The title has now been handed to Reality Pump Studios, the team known to Xbox 360 gamers for the Two Worlds franchise and vehicular combat title Iron Sky: Invasion. The change will still leave the core storyline and dark setting intact, but new features and an open-world setting will now be added to Raven's Cry.

TopWare Interactive's CEO Alexandra Constandache had this to say:

Raven's Cry has had our entire company excited from day one, and we can't wait for the finished product. Sadly, production hasn't moved forward in the way we wanted, so we had to make the tough decision to hand it over to the veterans at Reality Pump. Reality Pump has worked with us for twenty years on several games, including fan-favorite Two Worlds II. The experience the team gained while making the Two Worlds games has proven to be invaluable to their work on Raven's Cry. We are looking forward to releasing a game that is not only entertaining, but also more than the typical "hero who saves the world" tale. The positive feedback we received at this year's gamescom proved to us that we have made the right decision with this change, and to put it in Raven's Cry terms, we are excited to finally reach the port we've set sail for.
We have some new screenshots to go along with the announcement too.

Topware has currently set a release date of October 24th for the game, but with this being a Thursday this is likely to change in the future.
