Every so often a game comes along, stakes its claim, and basically clears the calendar of all other games for the week (apologies to Hot Wheels World's Best Driver
, Foul Play
, and Takedown: Red Sabre
, but it's not looking great for any of you).
That's right, gamers, this week we're diving in and looking ahead to Grand Theft Auto V
. No punny quips are needed here, but this game is definitely aiming to steal away your early fall, mid fall, late fall, and probably end a few relationships along the way. Let's dispense with the pleasantries and dive right in.
Right off the bat, let's get to some bad news. GTA V
has eleven secret achievements worth 200 of the possible gamerscore, but I doubt that will stop many of you from playing Rockstar's latest epic. On the other hand, seventeen of the remaining achievements are tied to the recently-announced GTA Online
. Those caveats exposed, let's check out some of the highlights of the list.
My love of classic cinema makes this achievement (and the mystery that's behind it) jump off the page.
Out of all of the classic lines from movies, "You're gonna need a bigger boat" has got to be in the Top 100 best lines ever. This fact alone makes me curious about this achievement.
We all know that GTA V
is going to have a TON of possible underwater exploration. Let's just hope that your crew doesn't end up like the crew of the USS Indianapolis.
Most gamers recognize the divergence between the Grand Theft Auto
series and the Saints Row
has gone more serious and Saints Row
has gone... well... you know. That being said, this next achievement could harken back to the wackier, earlier days of Rockstar's franchise.
I'm really curious to see exactly how this is set up in this story. Is there some kind of wacky, Dennis Hopper-in-Apocalypse Now
style crazy guy you have to collect this stuff for, or could it be more like a Fox Mulder kind of dark conspiracy nut? Either way, this is one side mission I'd definitely be checking out.
If there's one thing that virtually all GTA
fans love it's the ability to save their game, and simply go a bit nuts in the world. While Rampages were omitted from Grand Theft Auto IV
, they're back with a vengeance in GTA V
That's right, mayhem-loving gamers, it's once again time to make some mistakes and get nuts
In the event that you've been on total GTA V
information lockdown, you might not realize just how important cash is going to be in the game... well... come to think of it... you're probably not even going to be reading this. Anyway, you're going to be doing heists and making tons of that sweet, sweet moola, making this achievement one to shoot for as a goal.
That's right, larceny-lovers, you're going to need to knock off a liquor store or two to even come up with two hundred million dollars, much less spend it. Don't have too much fun.
When trying to find the toughest ratio champion for GTA V
there are more than a few contenders, but I'm going to give the early honor to this pop, and I think you all know why.
The difficulty of this achievement is based upon three premises:
1- GTA Online
needs to be good for people to continue to play it.
2- You need to be pretty good (or at least patient) while playing GTA Online
3- At this time, it's tough to tell how quickly you'll gain levels.
With those three things in mind, I'm thinking that "Above the Law" will probably stand as the ratio champion for quite some time. Other contenders for high ratios include Enjoy Your Stay
(GTA Online: Participate in everything Los Santos has to offer), Decorated
(GTA Online: Earn 30 Platinum Awards), Run Like The Wind
(GTA Online: Survive for a day with a Bounty on your head), Three Man Army
(Survive 3 minutes on at least a 3 star Wanted Level with all three characters together off mission), and Multi-Disciplined
(Attain a gold medal in all applicable hobbies and pastimes).
I'll be quite honest, that looks like a tough list and it's pretty obvious that Rockstar put A LOT of thought into crafting achievements that would encourage gamers to hang on to the game for a long time and keep playing it, so be sure to keep that in mind if you are one of the hardest of the hardcore completionists. That being said, GTA V
looks like an absolute blast. I've never been a fan of the series, but Rockstar might have hooked me.GTA V
comes out next week.
