During a panel at the recent Comic Con event in New York, Marvel let loose some fantastic news: developers Beenox will be releasing the latest title in Marvel's web-slinging superhero series, The Amazing Spider-Man 2
, during Spring 2014. The game will have a different storyline than the one to be featured in the movie of the same name, but will include characters from both the movie and the classic comic book series on which it's based.
The player will be able to traverse around an open-world version of Manhattan as both Peter Parker and his alter ego Spider-Man. What is most intriguing is the new 'Hero or Menace' system; if you play the true hero then you will be rewarded with special unlocks, while being a bit of a bad egg will result in some negative consequences down the track.
Co-Studio Head of Beenox Thomas Wilson introduced their upcoming title alongside a new trailer:
The first The Amazing Spider-Man game gave players their own beautifully animated, free-roaming city of Manhattan to traverse and explore – a playground of majestic scale in which to live out our common hero fantasies. and the overwhelming message from fans was: ‘MORE!’ That’s what our team is working toward with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – we’re giving gamers more abilities, more upgrades, more challenges, and more freedom to progress. And with the game launching alongside the new movie, offering an expanded interactive experience beyond the film, fans of the franchise won’t want to miss playing it.
The new game has been confirmed for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. We want to thank the ever watchful eye of our great community who brought this news to our attention; thanks folks!
