Ubisoft has announced that their ambitious new IP, Watch_Dogs
, will be missing its scheduled release date of next month and has been delayed into spring 2014. In an announcement made by a Watch_Dogs
Community Developer via the Ubisoft forums
, the reason for the delay was explained as an unfortunate but necessary measure needed in order to deliver a high quality product to the masses.
We know a lot of you are probably wondering ‘why now?’ We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.
The delay will be a disappointment to those looking forward to following the exploits of protagonist Aiden Pearce, and many people may be searching for a different go-to launch title on Xbox One now that the game is pushed into next year.
Ubisoft came forward with another delay as well, stating in a press release and subsequent conference call that the next-gen MMO racer The Crew
would be pushed back further into 2014. The new release window now has The Crew
moving from an early 2014 release to sometime in Q2 2014.Watch_Dogs
was originally keyed in for a November 19th and 22nd release date for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, respectively. Aiden may not need that patented coat of his with the game’s new spring release window. Chicago is known as the Windy City though, so perhaps a coat will be warranted still. The Crew
now takes the checkered flag sometime later in 2014.
