Whatever your opinions on the franchise, Halo: Reach
is undoubtedly one of the biggest, most highly-anticipated games of the year. Combining that fact with the site's love of achievements and the leak of the upcoming game's achievements is something to get excited about.
...Only they haven't been leaked. No, instead Bungie have taken a fairly ingenious approach in revealing the achievements themselves a couple of months in advance!
...Only they haven't been fully revealed. A handful have been identified, the general list summarised and the all the achievement icons have been shown, but the full list hasn't been entirely revealed.
So first, here's the image of all of the game's 49 achievements: Click here to see it full-size
And here's the handful that Bungie have confirmed:
• A Monument to All Your Sins – Complete each Campaign Mission on Legendary – alone.
• Banshees, Fast and Low – Hijack a Banshee during the Reach Campaign.
• Yes, Sensei – Earn a First Strike Medal in a Matchmaking game.
• A New Challenger – Complete all of the Daily Challenges in a given day.
• Make It Rain – Purchase an item from the Armory that requires the rank of Lt. Colonel.
• If They Came to Hear Me Beg – Perform an Assassination against an Elite to survive a fall that would’ve been fatal.
Finally, the general outline of what to expect of the achievements: 23 of them are Campaign-specific, 7 for Firefight, 4 for Multiplayer, 6 for Training and 9 for Player Experience. Bungie later said that each Campaign mission will have its own special Achievement like the "If They Came to Hear Me Beg" achievement above.
Okay, news out of the way. Intelligement glasses and speculation hat on. Judging from the achievement icons, you can make educated guesses at what most will require you to do. So that's what I've tried to do below...
Much like Halo 3
, there seems to be an achievement for completing each mission, from the second to the tenth (bottom row of the image). Likewise, the first three are nearly identical to Halo 3
's difficulty-specific achievements for finishing the Campaign on Normal, Heroic and Legendary, and then the fourth will be "A Monument to All Your Sins."
Next to that, the fifth icon on the top row is almost identical to Trading Down in Halo 3: ODST
's, so probably for the same task. The three following that are probably for getting X amount of kills/headshots with each of the weapons. The last two look like a Scorpion and a Phantom, respectively, so maybe for destroying a certain amount? Or related to kills with each vehicle?
Second row, the first two are no doubt for unlocking items from the Armoury, the first probably for purchasing just one item and the second being the aforementioned "Make It Rain" achievement. The following two are probably for online ranks, the second being Colonel. Following that, an achievement related to the Commendations, but I don't know what! The sixth is the familiar Killing Spree logo, for getting five kills in a row; the eighth is the First Strike medal ("Yes, Sensei"); the ninth related to the new Assassinations; and the tenth is the Skyjacker medal, for highjacking a flying vehicle (so the achievement is probably "Banshees, Fast and Low").
Third row... I'm far less sure. No doubt those of you who are bigger Halo fans will have better guesses on these, so please post below what you reckon they are! I'd assume the first is the "A New Challenger" achievement Bungie detailed, the third already confirmed as "If They Came to Hear Me Beg." The rest are probably the Campaign mission-specific achievements, but I wouldn't like to guess any more specifically. Although the ninth has a similar picture to Heal Up in Halo 3: ODST
, so probably related to healing in some way (thanks to http://www.trueachievements.com/kingnothing95.htm
The seven green achievements on the penultimate row are obviously the Firefight achievements, based on the colour and number of them. The first is the Killionaire logo, requiring 10 kills within four seconds; the second related to Legendary, no doubt for finishing the final wave on said difficulty; the third possibly for earning X amount on each map; and the other numerical achievements are probably for achieving that score within a single Firefight match.
Enough to whet your appetite? Even ignoring my speculation, there's still a lot of good information to gain from Bungie's news - specifically the low number of online achievement which is no bad thing at all! But please do make a post if you have any better speculation on these achievements, let's see if we can't make a full list of educated guesses!
Oh, and in case you had somehow forgotten, Halo: Reach
is scheduled for a worldwide release on September 14th.
