Let's Talk with Large Coffee

By Cindy Minguez, 3 years ago
Welcome back, achievement hunters. This week, we're headed just up the road to chat with one of our fellow TA'ers, a gamer nominated because he's such a helpful player and just all-around nice guy. Join me in welcoming our next vict...er...guest of the week, Large Coffee.

B1ue: Hi, Coffee! Thanks for joining us today.

Hi, B1ue. Glad to be here.

B1ue: Gamertags almost always tell something about their owners. Tell us about yours.

Well, it all goes back to... *ahem* yeah, no long, drawn out story here. I like coffee, that is all.

B1ue: How long have you been gaming?

: CRAP! It's been 20 years already!?

B1ue: Do others in your family game, or are you a first-generation gamer?

I have two older brothers that are very casual gamers, and at least once a week you will find my mother playing her Wii; she loves that thing!!!

B1ue: What do your family and friends have to say about your gaming?

Well, for the past couple of years, I have been in Oklahoma working, so I have been away from my family. Once I move back to Massachusetts next year, I will probably get a bit of guff over the amount of time I spend gaming.

B1ue: I'm from Arkansas and spent a couple of years going to school in Oklahoma, so it's a place I know well. That's a long way from Massachusetts. Was it a hard adjustment?

It was a bit of a culture shock at first, but I've found that it's actually a lot more laid back here than on the East Coast.

B1ue: We are a pretty laid back bunch down here. :-)

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of work do you do there?

I'm a Lean Manufacturing Business Analyst for a mining equipment manufacturer.

B1ue: That's a new one for me. What's a Lean Manufacturing Business Analyst?

Well, for the most part, I try to reduce cost in both the manufacturing process and the way we purchase material. It's really not as simple as it sounds; it proves to be a challenge each and every day!

B1ue: What other hobbies do you enjoy?

I'm a pretty big movie buff, especially horror and sci-fi films. My favorite directors are Robert Zemeckis, Stanley Kubrick, Wes Craven, George A. Romero, and David Lynch.

B1ue: I remember Twin Peaks being so weird...

Of what real life achievement are you most proud? Would you give us some details?

Hmm, honestly I would have to say the fact that I quit smoking. It has taken me years of failed attempts; I think I've finally done it! It will be 10 months in November!!!

B1ue: Congratulations!! Having quit twice myself, I can certainly appreciate how hard that is. That really is a true achievement. Way to go! smile

What’s your favorite game of all time on any console? What makes it special?

I'd have to say Super Mario World. When I was about ten years old, my parents got me a Super Nintendo for Christmas. I spent the ENTIRE day playing it. I didn't even open my other presents! I guess the part that makes it so special is the fact that is was like a storybook dream. I had bugged my parents for the entire year for the console, from bartering allowance to doing extra chores. I WANTED THAT SUPER NINTENDO!!! Then that special morning finally came. Somehow my parents managed to slip the box under the tree without me noticing!

B1ue: Do you remember the first game you played? What’s your fondest memory of it?

The first game I can remember playing is Tiger Heli for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The thing I remember most about it was the fact that I beat the game twice before I realized it never ends!!!

B1ue: If some evil spell allowed you to own only a single game for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?

I hate to say it, but I will have to go against everything I believe in and say World of Warcraft. Reason being, if I am to be stuck with ONE game for eternity, I would want it to be something that will receive regular updates for the foreseeable future (...I feel dirty now).

B1ue: lol. I think you'll be okay...

Any games you regret putting on your tag?

Spartacus Legends.

B1ue: If you were forced to change your gamertag, what would you change it to? What would the new tag reflect about you?

B1ue: Tell us about your gamer pic. Why did you choose that one?

Um, I think it brings out my eyes.

B1ue: Do you have any particular gaming pet peeves?

Mouth breathers.

B1ue: What upcoming game are you most looking forward to?

The Evil Within

B1ue: Will you be playing that on the 360 or investing in an Xbox One?

Initially I will get it on the 360, but I will definitely be picking up a One sometime next year.

B1ue: What game are you most proud of completing? Why?

At the moment, Saints Row 2 - it was a hell of a grind, and I met some awesome people while playing the MP!

B1ue: If you found yourself dropped into a video game, which video game character would you most want to have your back?

Probably Duke Nukem. He's got the girls, the guns, and the gusto!

B1ue: In the same scenario, what character/creature would you most/least like to see headed your way?

Mr. Resetti from Animal Crossing.

B1ue: Any characters you would like seen thrown into video game hell?

The Medusa Heads from Castlevania, Eddie Gordo from Tekken, Soda Popinski from Punch-Out!!, and The Dog from Duck Hunt. I could go on, but those are some of my more notably hated.

B1ue: Why the dog?

Because he's always laughing at me!

B1ue: Ever had any bad experiences online? How did you handle it?

I've had a few, but I've found just "walking away" from the situation works best.

B1ue: Do you prefer single player or multi-player?

I prefer muti-player, but game and genre choices make single player my primary mode of play.

B1ue: Do you have a favorite group of friends you like to play with? If so, how did you meet?

I've got a few friends that I play with on a pretty regular basis;

Cuckoolander - A-class booster and crappy game extraordinaire!
We met about a year ago. Cuckoo followed my Pinball FX 2 blog, and, as always, I became curious. Shortly after that, we ended up boosting Bloody Good Time (the name is very deceiving) a few times and became great friends. Cuckoo is probably one of the most dedicated boosters I know; she will always help her friends out, no matter how terrible the game might be; she's a great comrade to have on your side!

MURD3RS GIRL - Boosting Ninja and Olympic Bean Diver
MURD3RS GIRL and I met through (drumroll) my Pinball FX2 blog also. It took a little while before we actually became acquainted, but once we started talking a bit, it was clear it would be lasting friendship. We still need to finish Contra co-op!!

ChaosAlert - Top notch gamer and ratio pig
Chaos and I met during my Saints Row 2 boosting journey. He was there throughout most of the "fun" and stayed for quite a few sessions afterwards when he didn't need to. Anyone who is willing to go the extra mile deserves the utmost respect in my book. Nowadays, Chaos and I will catch up here and there to work on random games when we both have the time. We still need to finish Grand Theft Auto IV, man!

spookyhurst - ...if it's boostable, I own it
Spooky and I go back to pretty early in my TA expedition. In fact, we met in my 9th boosting session for Doritos Crash Course ! The times have never been dull with spooky; we have had tons of laughs and played a bunch of great games together since. Our most recent trek was co-oping Saints Row: The Third. Good times!

Nomstuff - Location: Somewhere cold and wet.
Om nom nom.
Nomstuff is easily one of my favorite TA chat regulars. When we aren't bantering back and forth about some nonsense, you MIGHT catch us actually playing a game together. Our most recent game run-in was the Kane and Lynch leaderboard circus. Man that was fun!!! Nom is a great buddy to have and will always help you out in a game if he is able to.

Manic Ado - The Kassboer.
Manic Ado is another TA chat buddy that always manages to bring a good laugh to the table. There have been many occasions that we have hung out purely for the jollies. He is one of the most dedicated gamers that I know and will plow though a game in no time! How the heck did you already finish Grand Theft Auto V so fast !?

B1ue: Sounds like you've got some great friends there. toast

If you could have a multi-player session with anyone in the world, whom would you choose? Why?

G2S RONGOTTI, I'm curious to see what he's been up to since his early retirement.

B1ue: What other consoles do you own? What are your favorites on those platforms?

Right now, the only other console I own is an OUYA. Canabalt HD and Saturday Morning RPG have been keeping me busy when not playing my Xbox 360.

B1ue: Um...what's an OUYA?

An OUYA is an Android-based gaming console geared toward indie development. They encourage modding and support various emulators; it is only $99, and all of the games are free to try!

B1ue: Wow, that sounds really cool! I'm going to have to get one of those. Thanks for telling me about it!

Have you ever had a game you really looked forward to that you were disappointed in when it finally arrived? Tell us about it.

If just looking at the games on my tag, I could name at least five. The most recent title that comes to mind is The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. I had followed this game for a bit of time, and I really thought it looked promising. Despite all of the reviews and poor word of mouth from friends, I still had hope. It took me all of 10 minutes of game play to realize I needed to start reading the writing on the wall when it was clear as day.

B1ue: Tell us about your gaming set-up.

Ah, it's nothing too special:

I've got an Xbox 360 Slim with a 250GB external HD

My OUYA with 2 controllers and a 500 GB external hooked up to it

Turtle Beach XP 500 and X12 headsets

Micca MPLAY-HD 1080p Full-HD Digital Media Player with
(3) 2 TB external hard drives for streaming media

B1ue: Looks like a great set-up. smile
