With the death of Microsoft Points, Microsoft is making the additional move to close down the Zune Marketplace. While we announced this news back in August
, the actual shutdown is looming. Starting on November 22nd, it will no longer support rental and purchase of content, or browsing movies and TV shows.
While this is sad news indeed, Microsoft is not without alternative solutions.
For videos, users may now rent and buy movies and TV shows using local currency on Xbox Video, which is now available for the 360, Windows 8.1, and RT PCs and tablets. Additionally, Xbox Video will be available at XboxVideo.com and on the Xbox One starting on November 22nd. Microsoft also anticipates it being available on Windows Phone 8 starting as early as this holiday. Finally, the video content you've already purchased through the Zune Marketplace will be available on Xbox Video stores.
If you're one of the few, the proud who likes to purchase music, you may still do so using your local currency on Windows 8.1 PCs and tablets.
