Xbox One Voice-Activated Searching Detailed

By Keith Gray, 2 years ago
Senior Director for Bing, Stefan Weitz has now explained how the Xbox One, the new Kinect peripheral, and the Bing search engine combine to achieve a truly interactive experience. The new technology will take voice navigation a step further by allowing users to interact with their console in conversational phrases, rather than requiring strict and pre-set voice commands, by utilising Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) to recognise common phrases. Examples of the phrases that the Xbox One will recognise can be seen below:

• “I feel like watching comedy movies from the 1980’s”
• “Show me popular dubstep music”
• “I want to watch the movie Star Trek Into Darkness”
• “I want to play Forza Motorsport”
Furthermore, Major Nelson's voice features in the following video to demonstrate voice recognition in action on the Xbox One.

Previous coverage has detailed how Internet Explorer changes and Xbox LIVE enhancements will also contribute to an interactive experience for users.

Xbox One releases this Friday, November 22nd.
