Forza Motorsport 5 Economy Update

Forza Motorsport 5 Economy Update

The community speaks...Turn 10 listens!

Written by Joshua Rust (knight0fkh0nshu) on 28 November 13 at 22:29

Criticism revolving around Forza Motorsport 5's credit and unlock system has been heard by the Turn 10 team. They have announced that they will be compensating gamers in a number of different ways due to the feedback, positive and negative, that they have received over this past week since the Xbox One and Forza Motorsport 5's launch.

1) Starting this Friday we’re offering a 50 percent discount (credits & tokens) on every car in the game. This discount is available to all players. Every car, from the 1970 Nissan Datsun 510 to the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO will be 50 percent off, so, if you’ve got your eye on something special on the car list, now’s the time to play and add them to your garage! This discount will be available between 12:01 a.m. Pacific on Friday, Nov. 29 and 11:59 p.m. Pacific on Sunday, Dec. 1.

2) If you are a Forza Motorsport 5 VIP member, you’ll receive the 2013 Lotus E21 grand prix car as a thank you. (Note: You must own Forza Motorsport 5 VIP membership to take advantage of this offer.) In addition to being one of the most radical and expensive cars in FM5, the E21 is also one of the quickest. For more on the E21, check out its entry on the Forza Motorsport 5 Cars page. This gift may take up to 24 hours or longer to be fulfilled in the game and, in order to receive your gift, you will need to back out to the main title screen with the orange McLaren P1 and then press “A” to log back in.

3) Those players who have already purchased the 2013 Lotus E21 as of today (Wednesday, November 27) will also receive the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO as a further thank you. This gift may take up to 24 hours or longer to be fulfilled in the game and, in order to receive your gift, you will need to back out to the main title screen with the orange McLaren P1 and then press “A” to log back in.

4) For those players who have purchased the LaFerrari Car Pack or the Forza Motorsport 5 Car Pass we’ll gift the 2013 LaFerrari directly into your Forza Motorsport 5 garage. No need to purchase the car separately with in-game credits or tokens. (Note: In order to receive and use these gift cars, you’ll need to own either the LaFerrari Car Pack or the Forza Motorsport 5 Car Pass). This gift may take up to 24 hours or longer to be fulfilled in the game and, in order to receive your gift, you will need to back out to the main title screen with the orange McLaren P1 and then press “A” to log back in.

5) Finally, we’re dramatically increasing the credit payout available to all Forza players in December via Forza Rewards, our ongoing loyalty program that rewards players with credits and cars for playing Forza games. You’ll be able to redeem these rewards in December but here’s a tip: The higher your Tier level reaches before December rolls around, the better the rewards you’ll be able to redeem, so get your play time in now and level up!
They also apologized and are issuing compensation for the Limited Edition owners, who were previously led to believe that through purchasing the Limited Edition they would be able to purchase any car in the game with the 1,250 tokens that was paired with the Limited Edition - which was not the case.

In our original description for Forza Motorsport 5's Limited Edition, we told you that Limited Edition owners would get 1,250 in-game tokens, which we mistakenly said would be enough tokens to afford any car in the Forza 5. It isn't. As a result, a number of you have pointed this out to us – that there are a number of cars in the game that cost more than 1,250 tokens to purchase.

We're sorry. In order to make up for this discrepancy, we will soon be offering Forza Motorsport 5 Limited Edition owners the chance to download and own the car of their choice in the game. Players will be able to choose from any of the on-disc cars in Forza 5 and will be able redeem this offer on ForzaMotorsport.net via a dedicated page that will be available no later than December 16.

Looking ahead, we'll continue to make further adjustments to the Forza Motorsport 5 economy when they're needed and I'll be sure to keep you informed as these changes are made. For now, take advantage of all the cool stuff coming your way and, as always, thanks for your patience and for being a member of the Forza Motorsport community.
All of these compensation rewards go into effect this week, so make sure you take advantage of this while it lasts. Forza Motorsport 5 is available now for the Xbox One.

Can't say they aren't listening to the players, a much better start than 360 games that had early issues that to this day are yet to be resolved.

I refuse to buy this game.

Microsoft need to be taught they can't set such insane microtransactions in a full priced retail game.

Its borderline criminal what they have done to Forza.

Whats next, paying for ammo in Halo? F@a& you Microsoft.

To be honest the only reason I bought an Xbone was for this game - then when I realised (after the achievement list was released) it was a grind, I was kind of gutted.

Then I realised Nurburgring wasn't in game either - or Suzuka. Kind of devastated but at least I still own PS3 and GT6 is out in a couple of weeks.

I will certainly read up more on such a big purchase in future...

Why not just refuse to buy the tokens lol. They have put their hand up and said they have got a couple of things wrong and the article also says they will make further adjustments.

Be careful of GT6 too. They have added micro-transactions to that also, and I remember GT5 being a bit of a grind last time around. I'll wait for the reviews to settle before making a choice on it.

I don't mind it being a grind so much, as long as it is enjoyable - but the lack of some of my favourite tracks was a real disappointment - all I wanted was to cruise round Nurburgring in a Nissan R92CP but clearly this is still only going to be possible in Gran Turismo...

That and most of the cars I've bought so far handle like a brick on a skateboard...

I would recommend reading the forums from time to time on Forzanet. The Nurburgring will be added later as a free download.

The funny thing about micro transactions is that you DON'T have to buy them. Just play the game.

Disgusting game. They are offering discounts on day one DLC which was cut from the main game anyway. They are also giving you the cars you PAID for already instead of having to buy them again in the game with credits.

Those who are saying "You don't have to buy them" are really misinformed. If you have been followi g Forza 5 you'd know exactly why this is bullshit. The micro-transactions have completely shaped the design of the game, and it has been reported that you'd have to spend over 400 hours to unlock every car legitimately, without using real money. It's so disgraceful and I'll have nothing to do with this game until they drastically reduce the grinding required and release a complete edition.

Some cars cost over $100 in real money. For ONE car. These micro-transactions are filthy. They have taken out features we are used to in the older Forza games just so they can try and get us to fork out more money. Anyone who defends this crap is an idiot. Yes, yes you are. This isn't like the Dead Space 3 MTA, this is so much worse. Go to the forums or NeoGAF or wherever and educate yourselves on what Turn 10 have done.

oh darn, they lost 60 of whatever currency your country use... Really killing their profit margin there! Stop being so self righteous and play games for what they are, games. At the end of the day, you don't have the game so they don't have to cater to you so really they don't care about you... The joys of being Microsoft...

With rising costs to make games I see no problem with the option. Some people will buy it and a lot more will not. You decide what to do with your money. The video game industry is a business not a charity.

To those that complain about microtransactions on principle, how do you account for the fact that game prices have been relatively stable for years?

If the gaming community (and thus game sales) isn't growing exponentially and game prices are staying static, developers can't give us the games we salivate over without extra payments coming into it somewhere.

Do you think it was cheap to scan every track in real life so that they could be recreated in-game?

It's one thing to object to a specific microtransaction model, but unless you're willing to pay a significantly higher retail price or willing to purchase 2009/2010 era quality for 2013 retail prices, you're kidding yourselves.

We're seeing new heights in game quality and with it needs to come new heights in game pricing.

The issue is that the game was built like a F2P game, but you still have to buy it. There is NO auction house any more, so you can't gift or sell cars. The only way to get all cars is to spend over 400 hours grinding away. How is that acceptable when the other games in the series took infinitely less time? This game is designed to milk the shit out of people.

Halo 4 already sells perks, so get used to that in every FPS game from now on. You will buy the game and have to pay for micro-transactions for new weapons and abilities.

CovetousCash64 said:We're seeing new heights in game quality and with it needs to come new heights in game pricing. And with that they are using new tools that make development easier. What they spend on their game is their issue, there have been games that cost a small fraction of other games and are significantly better. If they are so confident in this model perhaps they should go F2P instead of double and triple dipping?

If we had no basis for comparison, they might have been let off the hook, but the fact is that they have stripped down what was available in previous Forza games just to be able to sell shit to us.
