Achievement of the Week for January 3rd

Achievement of the Week for January 3rd

Can you endure?

Written by Jonathan Barnes (osubluejacket) on 03 January 14 at 16:21

Happy New Year, Achievement Hunters!

Before we get into the first achievement challenge of 2014, let's take a look back at the final challenge of 2013.

Last week we were challenged to pop the Mile High Club achievement in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. At the outset here were the stats on the achievement:

On December 27th, 2013 - 38,666 gamers (out of 140,392 on-site) had popped the achievement.
"Mile High Club" had a base score of 20G and a 1.91 ratio, which gave the TA score up to 38.

On January 3rd, 2014 - 38,797 gamers (out of 140,925 on-site) have popped the achievement.
"Mile High Club" has a base score of 20G and a 1.91 ratio, keeping the TA score at 38.

While we didn't make a dent in the ratio, it is nice to welcome well over 100 new members to "the club".

Our next Achievement of the Week challenge is going to require you to pull together some friends.

ODST

Halo 3: ODSTVidmaster Challenge: EndureThe Vidmaster Challenge: Endure achievement in Halo 3: ODST worth 63 pointsIn Firefight, on any mission, pass the 4th Set on 4-player Heroic LIVE co-op.

Thus far, 21,740 gamers (out of 120,646 on-site) have popped the achievement.
"Vidmaster Challenge: Endure" has a base score of 25G and a 2.36 ratio, giving it the TA score of 59.

The top solution comes from JohnnyAmp88 who suggests the following:

If you follow this method it is pretty easy:

Use the Alpha Site map and position 2 people across from each doorway. This creates two chokepoints the covenant have to go through and gives you clear shots at them.

Stay out of the middle of the room except for between reinforcements where you can go grab weapons.

Have one player on each side get a Fuel Rod Cannon for Hunters and Chieftans. Get ammo for it in between rounds.

Have one player on each side stripping Brute shields with a Plasma Rifle and the other player doing head shots.

Using these tactics on this map took two hours and ten minutes to complete but we did it losing minimal lives while taking down the tough enemies quickly and efficiently.
Since ODST is without a matchmaking system for Firefight, why not set up a gaming session for yourself and three other ODST buddies?

Good Luck!

If you have a suggestion for an Achievement of the Week, be sure to let us know in the comments. Check back next Friday for the full report on how our community did popping this achievement as well as the announcement of our next Achievement of the Week!

^^ Works as long as your connection doesn't drop.

I've done it 6x. 4x having the game crash/freeze/disconnect near the final levels. >_<

Fun and challenging achievement,. You better hope the people you play with are in a similar region though. The lag can become insane and render it practically unplayable at times.

Do a challenge week for the "tactical challenger" achievement on Vanquish. I´ve been stuck on challenge 6 forever now and the challenge would be a good excuse to dust off the game and start the grinding (and dying a LOT!) for the achievement, which is one of the worst achievements I've faced thus far!

I remember just playing it with 2 guys using plasma pistols to kill their shields and 2 others using the regular pistol (which was extremely OP). It wasn't that hard. I actually enjoyed doing this achievement. Even helped a few other groups get it.

Congrats to everyone who got Mile High Club as well.
Shall we?

I'm somewhat surprised how few people are getting these achievements. Then again, I received ODST through Gamefly way back in the day, so I will not be able to get this one either.

Happy to have gotten this a few weeks ago and it wasn't possible without those that helped me out of course, especially Shadow 00 Fox for his repeated resolve and vow to help out, as well as his leadership and knowledge. It was maybe our 3rd attempt together before I got it done and he had already attained the achievement before. I'll gladly help out with anyone who wants to attempt this. I'm average at this game but will be keeping it.

Both of the above 2 posts are the most important 2 things if you ask me.

- THE GAME'S DISGUSTINGLY BAD LAG ISSUES
(This is the real issue and it took me 7 tries to get this achievement, half of them ending in lag issues. I consider my connection pretty good, as well as the guys I was gaming with, but this game is extremely touchy about your connection. Just a word of advice to those attempting this achievement: DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT attempt this achievement if you are not sure that you can provide the absolute most stable connection amongst all 4 members of your team. By "stable" I mean: a.) you need to make sure there is no one else in the house where you are attempting this using up the internet i.e. your family on the internet streaming videos or playing other games online. that means no YouTube or streamed movies and no little brother playing Minecraft online on his computer. NOTHING. The slightest spike in anyone's connection can screw this achievement up - just remember, you have to have 4 people connected in a checkpoint-free match for hours on end. It could be quick if you have a good or knowledgeable team at 2hrs or it could take 4 1/2 to 5hrs.)
- REGION ISSUES
(This one seemed to present problems for me if I was playing with gamers from other countries but I began to think that the game actually simply has problems connecting certain gamers to other gamers regardless of their nation. I have had good experiences with other gamers from different countries so I am not sure it is completely true that region plays a huge role in the failure of any match you may set up.)

- STAGE SELECTION
The last point of advice I could make is to play the match that will benefit everyone's abilities the most. For me, the most beneficial was Lost Platoon because I am good in vehicles (not so good on foot). Most people will attempt Lost Platoon (open large environment with vehicles) or Alpha Site (small close quarters using defensive strategies to hold off your foes; lacking in vehicles. In Lost Platoon, the overall goal (usually) is to get to the point of where everyone has a brute chopper, running laps around the base to pick off enemies, whilst utilizing spartan lasers to take out wraiths whenever they appear. If you stay on the move and take out those wraiths quickly you should be fine on Lost Platoon. You can make use of a sniper as well to thin out troops before the dropships land. Anyways I just found it much more fun playing it on L.P. rather than A.S. A.S. got boring so quickly and might even take longer but it is a solid strategy if you have a good team who can defend well and evade. There is a glitch on that map though where you can melee enemies through the glass of the elevator and remain invincible but sometimes you will get hit by grenades and bugs will screw things up. It's not 100% but sometimes helps.

Anyways it was plenty of fun attempting this and many thanks again to those who helped me out. Good luck to anyone attempting this. I see this as the most difficult achievement in the Halo universe and also personally one of the most prized achievements out there! I'm sure there have probably been many guides before on that Lost Platoon strategy but if Shadow 00 Fox ever happens to puts one up I would go and check it out! He's a good leader and knowledgeable of how the game works as well as good at getting things done. smile
Kennyannydenny - Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is a bit of a let-down. The story is fun, but really short. The side activities aren't really fun to do, more annoying

I found this much easier to do on Lost Platoon. Have one person hiding in the room with the laser to take out the phantoms wraith at the bottom, and they hide for the rest of the game. The other three go around on Choppers. Much easier to get out of the difficult fights if you are overwhelmed, and the choppers have unlimited ammo.

Edit:

My team used this as a basis:

Easiest on alpha site. Have 2 players on each side. I got it on my previous account but it got reset. Wouldn't mind getting some of the vidmasters and doing ODST on legendary again, message me back if you're interested. Only need 1 other player for legendary.
I have a good connection and i don't care what country you're from, it's worth a try.

Personally I really enjoy ODST, the only thing i found annoying is when you take damage the screen goes really red. Anyone know how to fix it fast?

Thank-you for the nice words in your comment! Just was reading through this topic intending to give the same advice you did, and you beat me to it. laugh
The reason I haven't posted a guide for this achievement is that there are already 23!!!??? guides for it. One more is only making a bigger mess. I just help out some people when I get the chance. I think your group was the 4th group? I love the ODST game, and that challenge is a lot of fun... with a good group of folks!

On a sidenote to the 'achievement challenge' creators. Can you please make part of the 'achievement challenge' badge, a count of how many of them we already had, PLEASE??? That makes sense, doesn't it? And gives those who can't go for the achievement challenge a little feather in their caps as well. smile
For example, for myself, and this achievement challenge: If you put your mouse over my badge, it would say, 0 achievement challenge; 3 achievement challenge previously won. Or something like that.....
