New Media for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

We first learned of Monolith Productions and Warner Brothers' newest game in the pipeline in November. A mere two months later, we have a gameplay video to give us a good idea of what we can expect from the upcoming hack 'n slash Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, as well as a few new screenshots.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor delivers a dynamic game environment where the player orchestrates their personal plan of vengeance as they bend Mordor to their will. The game begins on the night of Sauron’s return to Mordor, as his Black Captains brutally execute the Rangers of the Black Gate. Players become Talion, a ranger who loses his family and everything he holds dear, only to be returned from death by a mysterious Spirit of vengeance. As Talion’s personal vendetta unfolds, players uncover the mystery of the Spirit that compels him, discover the origin of the Rings of Power and confront the ultimate nemesis.

Using a new next-gen feature, the Nemesis System, the game remembers every choice you make and reacts accordingly as the game progresses, ensuring that each time you play will create a different experience. Your character can choose the enemy he wants to pursue, and each one chosen will be created as a unique individual with his own attributes and personality. Once you've fought him, he will remember you, as well. Whether destroying your enemy or making him your agent, you have a vast array of possibilities from which to choose. Just remember, these guys don't forget. Choose wisely.

A new story set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor delivers a vibrant next-gen game world through its Nemesis System. Every enemy players face is a unique individual, differentiated by their personality, strengths and weaknesses. These enemies are shaped by their encounters with the player to create personal archenemies who are unique to every gameplay session. Players must outthink each distinctively different enemy they encounter to infiltrate the ranks and dominate within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their actions and choices.

Additionally, the Palantir App is now available as a free download from the app store. A cooperative effort between Warner Brothers and Wikia, this app will sync with both game assets and the final game to provide the player with new layers of information, advice, and fan-authored content, all of which make for a unique second-screen experience.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will release for both Xbox 360 and the Xbox One at a yet-to-be-announced time this year.
