Assassin's Creed Unity Revealed

There are a handful of video game franchises which have come to be relied on to provide yearly releases. One franchise in particular is Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed, and this year's title has officially been revealed. Assassin's Creed Unity will take players to 18th century France during the onset of the French Revolution, a period of horrific turmoil for the country which radically reshaped its future. Other specific details regarding the game's plot and characters are not yet known, but the game has been advertised as next-gen only, so the Xbox 360 will not be seeing a release of this title.

For my fellow history nerds, there are plenty of things that stand out in particular. In terms of setting, we see in particular the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, and it's bells ominously ringing in the background. Even more notable is the infamous guillotine that is set up front and center. One could assume that this means that at least a portion of the game will make reference to the period known as the Reign of Terror, which took the lives of possibly as many as 40,000 people. The Assassin's Creed franchise notably has featured historically accurate individuals of their time periods, and I foresee Unity being no different. Notable individuals such as Maximilien Robespierre, and Napoleon Bonaparte are only a sample of those worth noting from the time period.

Assassin's Creed Unity is expected to release on the Xbox One sometime during the Holiday 2014 season.
