TA Gaming Stats - April 21st to 27th 2014

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period April 21st to April 27th 2014.

Welcome to another week of stats from here in the TA basement. Last week, I ended proceedings with a note stating that my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, had all gone. This prompted comments of worry and concern from you guys over the well-being and whereabouts of the little furry number crunchers. I now realise that my wording was a little vague. What I should have said was "My Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, have all gone...for pizza". Yes, they'd simply gone for some Crusty Joe's 13 inchers. While I dip my slice of Cheesy Tauntaun and Chilli into some Sour Cream and Marsh Root, let's take a look at the numbers.

Games Started
29,624 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 42,511 games between them (1,943 different games).

Last week's new release Trials Fusion (Xbox One) tops the table again this week, despite dropping from over 6,200 starters to 1,700. Other recent releases, LEGO The Hobbit (Xbox One) and Kinect Sports Rivals, both slip from third and fourth place into fourth and fifth, behind Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (Xbox One). There's not much else going on in the world of the One. It really is the Margherita Pizza of this week. Pretty boring stuff. Maybe the following week's release of Child of Light (Xbox One) will help, but we probably won't be seeing much movement until late May with Wolfenstein: The New Order (Xbox One) and Watch_Dogs (Xbox One).

With a similar lack of new releases on the 360, this week's table is also a bit of a Margherita, but let's call it a Quattro Formaggi for the sake of difference. It's still just plain old cheese though, let's be honest. The top four titles are the same as last week, with the main difference being that both previous "Games with Gold" freebie Hitman: Absolution and Titanfall halve their numbers from 1,300/1,000 to 600/500. What's also noteworthy is that, despite not being free for over a week, Hitman still has enough late starters to put it ahead of the biggest new release of recent times. Also, that game (Titanfall) now slips behind it's One iteration's numbers, just a week after release, whereas the next-gen version has been out for over a month.

The Hawaiian pizza of this week (I'm totally committed to this now) is the Arcade table, with two titles doing much better than anything else. "Games with Gold" freebie Deadlight grabs almost 5,000 starters in first, a drop of half from last week's almost 10,000. In second, Warface gets a boost in players from under 700 to over 2,600 thanks to being officially made live following the public beta of the last few weeks. A new release pops up in fifth with 300 starters in the form of Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium Duels. The game did appear at the end of March, but has only just been released outside of North America. Unfortunately, the table is kept from getting more interesting thanks to the absences of other new releases Defense Technica and Dustforce. Currently, both games have fewer than 75 and 50 starters apiece, despite having been released for over a week. They're the anchovies of this tenuous pizza analogy. Or the Ewok nuggets (gross).

Everyone loves a freebie and this week's Deal of the Week gave away Rabbids Big Bang (WP) for Windows Phone and Windows 8 for the big price of zero, meaning it easily takes the top spot on the phone table with almost 800 starters. One single topper more popular than the rest? Pepperoni. It sits ahead of the usual free-to-play stuff, some other freebies recently offered to Nokia phone owners, including Brain Challenge HD (WP) andLet's Golf 2 (WP), and EA sale titles like Plants vs. Zombies (WP) and Trivial Pursuit (WP).

The freely offered Rabbids Big Bang (Win 8) also takes the lead on Windows 8 with 280 starters, but faces a little competition in the forms of World Series of Poker: Full House Pro (Win 8) and Hexic (Win 8). The three together make for a Meat Feast. Although, they're all free and the numbers aren't great, so it's a pretty rubbish set of toppings. Last week's new release Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (Win 8) gets lost itself as it drops from third place right off the bottom of the table.

Here endeth the pizza analogies. Not only because they are becoming increasingly tenuous, but also because I've been eating a whole pizza per table and now I have a little dough baby. Did the Statisticles enjoy their's, you ask? Who said anything about them getting any? They're fed on a strict diet of Ticker Tape for their delicious nutritional, numerical value.

Games Completed
8,136 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 11,164 games between them (1,264 different games).

Along with last week's "Zomboss Down" DLC continuing to give PvZ: Garden Warfare a solid boost in third, Ryse: Son of Rome and http://www.trueachievements.com/Peggle-2-Xbox-One/achie....htm also both got DLC's this week. Ryse's "Duel of Fates" puts the game in first with 430 completions, whereas Peggle 2's "Windy the Fairy Master" helps the game grab almost 390 completions in second.

Just a week after release and Trials Fusion pops up in fifth with almost 80 completions. Does that mean it's easier than the previous ones? Not necessarily, as currently less than 2% of players have finished it.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

Dark Souls II continues its unlikely reign at the top, with only 10 fewer completions than last week. Batman: Arkham Origins swoops into second thanks to the release of the "Cold, Cold Heart" DLC and its seemingly fairly simple achievements.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

The Deadlight numbers continue to smash the table thanks to an easy completion. This week, the numbers grow from 1,000 to almost 1,400, over 1,000 more than the next game on the table. After the impending server closure announcement, the Doritos Crash Course 2 completions begin to properly stack up as players rush to finish it. The game jumps from ninth with 50 completions to fifth with 130.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

Thanks to being offered for free and an easy completion, Shark Dash (WP) jumps to the top of the table, with other easy sale titles Trivial Pursuit (WP), RISK (WP) and The Game of Life (WP) also making appearances.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Shark Dash (Win 8) doesn't quite emulate the success of its Windows Phone version, only managing second place, behind Microsoft Mahjong (Win 8).

Achievements Won
71,658 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 772,751 achievements online between them (51,365 different achievements).

Last week, a single PvZ DLC achievement stopped Trials taking the clean sweep. This week, a single Peggle 2 DLC achievement manages the same, as Fairily Complete slips into sixth place.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

"Cold, Cold Heart" takes up the entire table with its ten achievements, freezing it solid with Batman: Arkham Origins

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Deadlight manages an almost identical clean sweep to last week.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Five Rabbids Big Bang achievements take up the top half of the table, whilst the usual suspects Hexic (WP) and Angry Birds Rio (WP) fill up the bottom.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

The same five Rabbids Big Bang achievements make their appearance, just in a slightly different order and with a single Hexic achievements disrupting the block.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Last week I noted that Deadlight had been reclassified on the site from being an Action-Adventure title to a Platformer. This change is clearly reflected here as the former genre nose dives from almost 8.4 million to 6.6 million. Although, it easily retains first place. Platformer however doesn't anything in the way of a boost as the natural decline in numbers counters the extra Deadlight addition. It does manage to retain third place with over 3.5 million, though. With Rabbids Big Bang on offer across two platforms, Puzzle gets a small boost from eighth with 500,000 to seventh with almost 1 million.

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
  • Action-Adventure6,605,865
  • Shooter5,347,352
  • Platformer3,737,678
  • Role-Playing2,682,164

  • Sports1,385,019
  • Puzzle963,141
  • Racing962,313

That's all for this week, folks. Join us next week when we'll see if Spidey can take us into the light. To thank the Statisticles for their hard work and their successful pizza run, I may reward them with a special trip too.
