I have an important announcement from the Investigations Team regarding Call of Duty World at War-related investigations:
Hello fellow TA'ers,
As a number of you are aware, there has been a lot of debate over Call of Duty: World at War
and what level of interaction is required from the user for the host of a modded lobby to illegitimately unlock achievements in the game for you.
While previous mods did not appear to allow the host to remotely unlock achievements, due to the helpful information from the community, the Investigations Team has been able to obtain and test a newer mod that does give the host that ability.
In light of this new evidence, the site admin and investigations team had discussed what to do with this game from now on. Such a large number of people have been victims of this mod that we did consider just removing it from the site altogether. However, we decided that was unfair to the people out there whom invested many hours in to this title while dodging modders.
So after much deliberation, we have decided that to be fair to those whom managed to finish it legitimately, the illegitimately unlocked achievements should be removed from the site calculations.
Therefore, the IT will no longer ask for an explanation on how the illegitimate achievements in World at War were unlocked on a gamertag and will instead offer to remove this game. Furthermore, Call of Duty: World at War
will neither count towards to the criteria for game removal or be taken into consideration when tracking level changes are made.
For example, if a gamertag had 4 titles with issues, one of which being Call of Duty: World at War
, 300+ games played and met all other criteria for game removal, they would have the option to have all 4 games removed.
I do not believe anyone whom has been the victim of a modder would disagree that the achievements were unlocked without their consent or in a legitimate manner. I am sure you can understand the need to maintain the ratios for the people out there whom worked hard towards this game.
If you have previously been investigated for Call of Duty: World at War
and wish for your investigation to be reopened and reviewed, please PM Investigations Manager
A side note to people out there who wish to start this game but are worried about modders tainting their profile. If you play with people you trust in private matches, you need not worry about modders. If you do find yourself in a game with colourful tags, people flying or strange things like cars appearing from nowhere, do whatever you must to leave as quick as possible. Microsoft PET are quite active within Call of Duty: World at War
and do pass out bans for hosting or actively using modded lobbies. If you join and leave without taking advantage of the mods, you have nothing to worry about.
