Twilight Struggle Gets a Digital Edition

Board game fanatics have likely already heard of Twilight Struggle. The strategy game takes place on a world map taken from the Cold War period. Players must move their units around the board and attempt to influence others to gain control and allies for their chosen superpower. Limited resources mean that cards and units must be used with careful planning. After ten years of success, publisher GMT Games has decided that the time has come to bring a digital version of the title to the Xbox One.

New players will be able to use the game tutorial to bring themselves up to scratch, while AI opponents help to improve those skills. The game also includes "pass-and-play multiplayer", as well as asynchronous and real-time online play. This trailer explains Twilight Struggle Digital Edition in greater detail and why the decision was made to create a digital version of the title.

The game is currently seeking funds on Kickstarter, where it smashed through its funding target in just 24 hours. So far, the stretch goals have added a further 20 single player game scenarios to the title. These scenarios put players at a pre-determined point within the game while holding a specific set of cards. You will have to finish the game from this point.

There will also be a New Space Race Track addition, where a variant set of powers is created on the space race track. In simpler terms, this changes the stakes as players race to the Moon. Finally the game will also be translated into French, German and Spanish.

Developer Playdek hopes to have the title finished by February 2015. If you feel like helping the teams along with their funding, the Kickstarter lasts until July 4th.
