TA Gaming Stats - June 30th to July 6th 2014

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period June 30th to July 6th 2014.

Welcome to Part Two of this three-headed stats beast, featuring a hefty dosage of all the numbers from here on TA while I sat sunning myself in a Mexican prison yard holiday resort. Part One is here and Part Three is here

Games Started
43,351 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 74,385 games between them (2,084 different games).

Kablooey! Freeness reigns supreme again as Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (Xbox One) takes over from Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (Xbox One) and Halo: Spartan Assault (Xbox One) as July's "Games with Gold" title and powerbombs its way to almost 13,500 starters.

Trailing behind it with over 10,000 fewer starters is the previous week's new release, Sniper Elite 3 (Xbox One), which actually manages to increase its numbers from under 1,200 to over 2,200 thanks to the slightly later US release coming this week. Other new releases from the previous week see a drop in numbers, as Valiant Hearts: The Great War (Xbox One) and Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition slide down from over 1,000 to around 500 starters. After last week's new release frenzy, this week sees a lull, with no other new releases across alternate platforms.

Like the One version, the 360 version of Sniper Elite 3 gets a boost in numbers thanks to a later US release, pushing it from fifth with under 350 starters to second with almost 520. It's not enough to push it over "Games with Gold" freebie Super Street Fighter IV though, despite that game losing its free status at the beginning of the week.

The between 170 and 210 starters for Payday 2, South Park: The Stick of Truth (Xbox 360) and Grand Theft Auto V in the bottom three spots this week must have felt a bit miffed, seeing as all three games were on offer the following week in the Ultimate Games Sale. Then again, Payday 2 was on offer the preceding week as well.

The "Games with Gold" switch-over gives new freebie Gotham City Impostors almost 10,000 new starters. Considering the game currently has around 25,000 players and these stats were generated two weeks ago, I can pretty safely extrapolate that over half of the game's players have come from this freebie offer. In fact, roughly the same logic and numbers can be applied to previous freebie Charlie Murder, which settles for second place.

This week's sale puts Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, Narco Terror, From Dust and I Am Alive in third, fifth, sixth and ninth places with between 230 and 390 starters between them, whilst the likes of Child of Light, CloudBerry Kingdom, Flashback and Freefall Racers didn't tempt enough people.

The only thing worth noting is that sale title Bejeweled Live (WP) pops up in eighth place with exactly 60 starters.

After last week's barnstorming Microsoft Sudoku (Win 8) performance, Microsoft pulls a similar trick by releasing Microsoft Jackpot (Win 8). With the game getting a soft release, it doesn't quite pull in the same numbers with under 380 starters compared to Sudoku's debut of over 570 and has to settle with second place whilst the latter game still maintains over 400 starters. With this latest release, the table is now full of eight, count 'em eight, Microsoft freebie titles.

Games Completed
7,905 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 11,235 games between them (1,357 different games).

As with the previous week, easy completion Another World maintains top spot, despite slipping 730 to under 460 completions. Valiant Hearts on the other hand goes from 300 to 400 and fifth to third place. Contrast (Xbox One) also moves up the table from sixth to fourth, whilst the likes of http://www.trueachievements.com/Peggle-2-Xbox-One/achie....htm and Sixty Second Shooter Prime see a slip in completions. With so many starters, Guacamelee was bound to get a shot at the table and, despite its relatively hard completion (fewer than 6% of TA'ers have currently finished it), the sheer numbers puts it at eighth with over 160 completions in its debut week.

Not much change on the 360 side of things, although Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Burning Earth has vanished again so order can be restored. In its place, recent sale title Bully: Scholarship Edition turns up with over 40 completions in tenth.

Charlie Murder manages to stay up above 300 completions in first, whilst Valiant Hearts finds its way onto the table in eighth place with over 50 completions, above recent sale title Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown.

The only thing here is that, seemingly bolstered by all the fun had with the Windows 8 Sudoku, players seem to have decided to plump for the Windows Phone version too, leading to a boost in completions and putting the game in fourth place.

Unlike Sudoku, Microsoft Jackpot doesn't have any date based achievements holding off completions. Unfortuately, it makes up for that with luck based achievements, making the completion rate pretty low (currently 3%) and keeping it from the table.

Achievements Won
78,782 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 1,289,530 achievements online between them (60,296 different achievements).

What did you expect? Guacamelee tears apart the whole table. Interestingly enough, the final achievement here, the appropriately named Last Straw has only been earned by under 40% of the game's players, which just goes to show the very large numbers involved here to manage to put it on the table.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

Unlike on the One, the 360 is nicely split across four different titles, with Sniper Elite, Street Fighter and Dark Souls sharing most spots and Saints Row: The Third managing to sneak into eighth.

Although so many people started it, it would seem that a fair few struggled with more than the first handful of achievements in Gotham City Imposters. It claims the top three spots and seventh, leaving the rest for Charlie Murder.

*le sigh*

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

It's a Microsoft fest as Sudoku claims most of the table but Jackpot denies it a clean sweep by taking third and tenth places.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Although it led the way significantly with almost 10 million in the previous week, Guacamelee helps add another 5 million to that number, further securing Action-Adventure's lead. As if it needed it. Gotham City Imposters and Sniper Elite do their best to bolster Shooter from under 7 million to almost 10 million, but it just aint enough.
