During the recent Australian Effects and Animation Festival (AEAF), developer 2xCubed exhibited a game trailer for their upcoming title Double Happy Vs. The Infinite Sadness: Pharos
. The game looks to be a light-hearted romp centering around two magical rabbit-like creatures (although they are specifically mentioned to be non-rabbits) known only as Pink and Blue, as they try to generate "cosmic randomness" to defeat the "Infinite Sadness", a horrible dark decaying force. Sounds like a fancy way of saying they will be causing trouble.
The developers have clearly taken cues from previous comedic games, such as Machinarium
, and have stated that the game will make use of a "single player co-op" control system, similar to the one used in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
. The story, however, includes strong parallels to our own universe as it attempts to explore issues with the economy, environment, humanity itself and the ever present threat of oppression.
The following trailers introduce us to the world and the characters involved:
Double Happy Vs. The Infinite Sadness: Pharos
is still at the pre-alpha stage, and the developers are aiming for a 2016 release. If you're keen, you can watch some webisodes related to the characters here
