TA Gaming Stats - August 4th to 10th 2014

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period August 4th to August 10th 2014.

Welcome to this week's stats from right here on TA in the first full week of August. Unfortunately, this was another quiet one as we sit in limbo, anticipating the next uptake of new releases. To keep them productive in the down time, I tasked my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, with creating an account here on TA. Only the one, mind; the turnover's too high to justify juggling accounts for each of them. Feel free to add them here. I can't be held accountable for any fleas, bites or rashes that occur because of it, though.

Games Started
37,004 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 54,901 games between them (2,006 different games).

With nothing in the way of new releases, the top half of this week's table mirrors last week's, with "Games with Gold" freebies, Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut, leading over previous freebies, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (Xbox One) and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (Xbox One), along with free app VoiceStudio.

The rest of the table sees the biggest releases on the console so far, including Titanfall (Xbox One) and Watch_Dogs (Xbox One).

This week's deal title, http://www.trueachievements.com/Angry-Birds-Star-Wars-X....htm, doesn't lure in enough players to make the table. As someone who one of the birds is modelled off, this saddens me. I may tear off some arms. Then again, neither did the also discounted Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox One), so I guess I can't be too bitter.

This week saw Capcom slice the prices of a decent chunk of their back catalogue. As a result, we get Resident Evil 4 HD (Xbox 360) in first place with 430 starters, Remember Me in third with almost 280 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X HD in sixth with 200. None of the other twelve Capcom Games on Demand titles discounted make the table, though. Although it didn't make the One table, the also discounted Call of Duty: Ghosts does take eighth here with nearly 190 starters.

New release Sacred 3 climbs up from fourth with under 220 starters to second with 420 thanks to also being released in the US this week. I didn't actually expect it to increase that much, although it's still under 500 starters, so not great.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Started

New "Games with Gold" title Motocross Madness, manages to stay above an impressive 7,000 starters, more than either of the One offerings manage. Pulling in over 1,700 starters in second is recent free-to-play strategy title AirMech Arena, although that's a drop on last week's over 2,300.

The on sale Terraria proves fairly popular in fourth with nearly 380 starters whilst, out of over ten discounted games, the Capcom sale only gives us one title, Darkstalkers Resurrection, in ninth with 180.

Do mine eyes deceive me? A new Windows Phone game?!? Wow, it's been a while. It would seem players were fairly hungry for something new as Hungry Shark Evolution (WP) lands on the table with over 470 starters in first. It's followed by last week's and this week's Red Stripe deals in the forms of Rabbids Big Bang (WP) and Shoot 1UP (WP).

Unfortunately, W8 can't elicit the same type of new release excitement and is still filled with the Microsoft collection of freebies, including the recent and popular Microsoft Jigsaw (Win 8) in first. Red Stripe deal title Shark Dash (Win 8) does attempt to keep things interesting by jumping into second with 90 starters. Wait, Hungry Shark Evolution released and Shark Dash on sale; what was this, Shark Week? *Chewie checks the calendar* No..but the week just past was! Dang it, I forgot to treat my Statisticles to their annual Shark Cage Diving. The twist is that the shark is in the cage too.

Games Completed
7,798 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,470 games between them (1,330 different games).

Strike Suit Zero leaps up the table from tenth with around 50 completions to first with almost 260. Although, last week I said how difficult it was to finish and so won't probably appear here, Crimson Dragon has surprised me and landed in eighth place with 90 completions. Then again, that's still a very small percentage of the huge volume of new players that the game has.

The new "Nemesis" DLC for CoD: Ghosts puts it in second with 230 completions, just above Titanfall, which climbs from ninth to third thanks to the "Frontier's Edge" DLC.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

The DLC for CoD: Ghosts also gives the game a boost on 360, with a slightly lower 200 completions in first. The games following it on the table are so close as to be almost interchangeable, and include a mix of easy big releases, sales titles and those with recent or discounted DLC.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

Although it slices 1,000 completions off its numbers, "Episode 4: Amid the Ruins" in The Walking Dead: Season Two manages to retain first place, because over 600 completions is still way more than anything else. Motocross Madness lands on the table in third with over 110 completions. Meanwhile, the rest of the table is mostly fairly easy recent sales titles or previous "Games with Gold" freebies.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

Being a freemium title, Hungry Shark Evolution requires a serious investment of either time or money to complete and therefore fails to make the table. What we do get is Shark Dash (WP) in its place, taking first with over 40 completions.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Shark Dash also takes first on W8, this time with the slightly higher 50 completions, managing to overtake table stalwarts Microsoft Solitaire Collection (Win 8) and Microsoft Mahjong (Win 8).

Achievements Won
79,694 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 1,254,323 achievements online between them (60,103 different achievements).

Last week, Strike Suit Zero and Titanfall managed to sneak in places, but this week Crimson Dragon is having none of it, setting fire to the entire table with a clean sweep.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

Although it didn't do enough to make the One table, the DLC for CoD: Ghosts takes the top seven spots here. That leaves Resident Evil 4 and Sacred 3 to claim the bottom three spots with their easiest achievements.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Motocross Madness claims the clean sweep again with the same achievements in the same order. Interestingly enough, fewer people got the number one achievement, but more people got the bottom one, reflecting the fact the game has fewer starters but more people getting further into it.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Hungry Shark Evolution only manages two spots on the table in first and third, whilst sale title Shoot1Up claims eighth place. That leaves Rabbids Big Bang and Temple Run 2 (WP) to share the remaining places.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Despite Shark Dash's efforts, Microsoft Jigsaw is still dominant, claiming the top seven spots.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

The gap between Shooter and Action-Adventure gets tighter still this week, with only 15,000 separating them now. Action gets a boost 5.3 million to 7 million in third, whilst Platformer sees a slide from 2.4 million in fifth to 1.8 million in seventh. Vehicular Combat gets a significant boost from 700,000 to 1.3million, no doubt thanks to Strike Suit Zero.

Told you it would be quiet. Next week things will liven up significantly, with new releases across every platform, including http://www.trueachievements.com/Pinball-FX2-Xbox-One/ac....htm, Risen 3: Titan Lords and Assassin's Creed Pirates (WP). Also, don't forget, the Statisticles want to be your friends. Then again, why would anyone want to be theirs?
