Achievement Preview Spotlight: Metro Redux By Andrew Ogley, 26 Aug 2014 FollowtopicsAchievement ListAndrew Ogley I’m not sure whether OSU suffers from achluophobia, agoraphobia, arachnophobia, or a combination of any of the aforementioned, or whether I’m considered the only cave dwelling member of the TA Team. Either way, it has fallen to me to cover the Achievement Preview Spotlight for the upcoming shooter Metro Redux Achievements. The highly regarded post-apocalyptic shooter is being reworked and upgraded, and will be bringing both titles in the franchise to the Xbox One console. Whilst that will bring updated visuals and various other improvements, what will it mean for the achievement hunters amongst the community? Will it be worth venturing back into the grim subterranean world of the Moscow Metro, scrabbling for achievements and Gamerscore? To start, let’s get some of the numbers out of the way. Metro Redux is the complete Metro franchise including the two games and all DLC in one total package. The separate games on the Xbox 360 had a total of 118 achievements (including DLC) for a grand total of 2620G. However, the new combined release only has 98 achievements for 2000G, obviously certain achievements have missed the cut. There has also been some balancing of the individual scores, and occasional tweaks to the targets needed to pop the actual achievement. However, all of the key achievements have made the grade. The big ones to look out for during the game are the story completion. Both games had alternate endings, and those endings make it into the new redux version. There are endings that are basically the result of playing the game with brute force tactics and tackling every situation like Rambo. There are also endings that require a little more patience and compassion as you play through. Be aware that both "Enlightened" in 2033, and "Redemption" in Last Light both are dependent on actions throughout the course of the game. It is not simply a matter of reloading the last chapter and making a different choice. These achievements will depend on the choices you make throughout and a word to the wise, play through Last Light following Wheaton's Law and you'll be well on your way to achieving a certain level of enlightenment. To balance the difficulty a little, there are a few new gimme’s in the game. Being able to wipe clean your gas mask is new to 2033, so to celebrate the fact, if you do it 20 times, you’ll receive 5G.Who goes there?Wipe your Gas Mask 20 times.2 guidesRespecting the Muscovites love of vodka, there are two new secret achievements, "Toast!" and "Cheers!"; unlocked for celebrating at each occasion. Which occasions those are, and how many there are, is not known. Furthermore, whether you can still shoot straight after popping those achievements will also have to be seen.Despite the fun to be had deep in the Metro tunnels, there are a couple of points that might make completionists cringe a little; the game now features two additional modes, Survivor and Spartan which have completion achievements. Each mode has to be completed in each game to unlock a total of four achievements.Spartan 2033Complete the game in Spartan Mode.1 guideSurvivor 2033Complete the game in Survival Mode.Survivor 2034Complete the game in Survival Mode.1 guideSpartan 2034Complete the game in Spartan Mode.1 guideOf the 98 achievements in the game only eight are marked as secret. Two of those are for the endings, two are for drinking, and another two are part of the story progression which cannot be missed, so that leaves a final two to be accounted for. The first of the two is entitled "Revenge" and for reasons of not spoiling the surprise, we'll leave you to check that for yourselves. The last achievement is really for being a good boy, and doing what you are told.SaviorRemove your mask when Lesnitsky demands it.2 guidesWith Metro Redux being a single-player only game there no are no multiplayer achievements which would usually include grinding and leveling up. The achievements that we have are the usual story progression, weaponry, events, and game difficulty. With the original games allowing the player to reload and replay different chapters, there is no reason why any of the achievements can't be popped. Unfortunately with the game requiring multiple playthroughs it will take completionists a fair amount of time to pop them all.If there's an upcoming game or DLC pack that you'd like to see featured in the Achievement Preview Spotlight, be sure to let us know in the comments!Achievement ListUpcoming ReleaseXbox OneXbox 360 Written by Andrew OgleyAndrew has been writing for TA since 2011 covering news, reviews and the occasional editorials and features. One of the grumpy old men of the team, his mid-life crisis has currently manifested itself in the form of an addiction to sim-racing - not being able to afford the real life car of his dreams. When not spending hours burning simulated rubber, he still likes to run around, shoot stuff and blow things up - in the virtual world only of course.
