TA Gaming Stats - August 18th to 24th 2014

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period August 18th to August 24th 2014.

Welcome to this week's stats as we begin to move into the end of August. More new releases are keeping the tables interesting and the Statisticles excited. To celebrate the release of one particular game this week, I created my very own dungeon in the TA treehouse for the Statisticles to explore and find loot, including the key to get out. I also filled the dungeon with deadly traps and creatures. Unfortunately, I'm currently looking at said loot pile, which I forgot to actually put down there and the key is hanging from my belt. Hey, what's a dungeon without a few sad little ghosts anyway?

Games Started
40,489 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 59,246 games between them (1,916 different games).

Last week saw a new game, http://www.trueachievements.com/Pinball-FX2-Xbox-One/ac....htm, smashing onto the table with over 4,800 starters and even managing to outdo the "Games with Gold" freebie offerings. However, those numbers were slightly undermined by the fact that the game was free-to-start so was picking up easy starters. This week sees another new game achieving the top spot, but this time the numbers exceed 8,200 and, happily, it's not free. Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition proves as popular as can be expected from the lauded dungeon-crawler, easily snatching the top spot, whilst Pinball FX2 has to settle for second with almost 3,200 starters.

We're spoilt by even more new releases this week, as Madden NFL 15 (Xbox One) manages to grab third place with over 1,600 starters, whilst The Golf Club takes sixth with over 680 and Fibbage follows shortly behind it with nearly 670. That leaves the rest of the the table to be filled with the current "Games with Gold" offerings, as well as some of the titles included in the new EA Access program. Finally, Trials Fusion (Xbox One) pops up in fifth thanks to being made free to try (much like Powerstar Golf), with some achievements being able to be unlocked as part of the free demo/trial. I'll go with trial. It is the name of the series, after all.

The 360 expansion version of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition (Xbox 360) doesn't fare anywhere near as well as the One version, only managing 1,600 starters in second. That puts it behind "Games with Gold" offering Dishonored, which manages to grow its numbers from 3,400 to over 4,700 in first. It's also worth mentioning that two new releases fail to make the table this week. The much delayed BloodBath and Kick-Ass 2 don't make the table and it's doubtful they ever will. Even now, a week later, neither game has more than 20 starters. That's pretty terrible.

Much of the rest of the table is taken up by titles in the week's Rockstar sale, with Bully: Scholarship Edition, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire grabbing third to seventh places with between 160 and 260 starters.

With its freeness over, Motocross Madness still manages to retain first place with its just under 1,000 starters. With no other new releases or sale items, the rest of the table see free-to-play and recent "Games with Gold" freebies mixed in with other popular titles with between 110 and 620 starters.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Started

With its release expanding into new territories, last week's new title Tentacles: Enter the Mind (WP) manages to go from exactly 300 to exactly 900 starters, jumping from second to first place. That leaves other recent release Hungry Shark Evolution (WP) to slip into second as it falls from over 530 to under 220 starters. Elsewhere, sale title geoDefense Swarm (WP) takes fourth place with almost 75 starters.

The W8 version of Tentacles: Enter the Mind (Win 8), whilst also achieving the number one spot, doesn't get nearly as many starters as the WP version, with fewer than 120. Hungry Shark Evolution (Win 8) slips here too, but takes a bigger drop from first to fourth and nearly 250 to under 90 starters.

Games Completed
6,791 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,688 games between them (1,422 different games).

Many frustrated gamers rejoiced at the news that a new patch would be released for Watch_Dogs (Xbox One) that would balance notoriously pernickety achievement Social Lubricant and make it more...well...achievable. The proof of that is shown here as the easier completion shoots the game in first place with 260 completions. Meanwhile, those who managed to complete it before the patch continue to grumble about how they did it when it was actually difficult and all these people are cheap noobs.

Elsewhere, Fibbage lands on the table in third in its debut week thanks to an easy completion (currently at 25% of players having finished it). Trias Fusion also takes fourth place with almost 140 completions thanks to the "Empire of the Sky" DLC.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

Recent DLC continues to keep Call of Duty: Ghosts on top, whilst Diablo III jumps up from eighth with over 40 to second with over 60 completions as more people wrap it up in anticipation of the new release. Like the One version, Watch_Dogs gets a post-patch boost onto the table into sixth with over 40 completions.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

With the release of the achievements to Xbox LIVE prior to the final episode's launch, The Walking Dead: Season Two, disappears from the table this week but will reappear with avengeance next week as everyone finishes it off, coupled with the recent Season Pass sale. Its absence leaves a fairly standard and low scoring, with notable appearance by Doritos Crash Course 2 in seventh as people continue to try and finish it before the server closure and Trials Fusion in ninth thanks to the DLC.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

Despite it's free-to-play grindiness, Tentacles: Enter the Mind (WP) takes seventh place with nearly 20 completions. This week's sale title, geoDefense Swarm, just makes it in tenth, whilst last week's sale title, Mush (WP), rides high in third. Then again, there are only ten completions separating them so it's anyone's game.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

The main thing here is that Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (Win 8) jumps up the table to first with almost 80 completions thanks to an achievement-adding "Title Update".

Achievements Won
80,099 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 1,285,589 achievements online between them (64,326 different achievements).

Diablo III possesses the entire table with achievements for completing specific actions, killing certain bosses and general story progression.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

Dishonored just misses out on the clean sweep as Diablo III: RoS lands in tenth with a particularly wonderfully named achievement, also the top one on the One.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

With nothing else coming close on the other tables, Motocross Madness again takes a clean sweep. The Walking Dead S2 should fix that next week.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Tentacles takes eight spots, including the top seven, leaving eighth and ninth places for Hungry Shark.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Two of the three "Title Update" achievements for Secrets and Treasure take first and fourth, whilst Tentacles only manages a single spot in third, leaving the usual Microsoft titles to fill up the rest.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

For the last few weeks, Action-Adventure and Shooter have been battling it out at the top of Genre, but this week a new contender jumps into the lead. Thanks to the double generation attack of Diablo III: UEE, Role-Playing makes a huge jump from around 4 million in fourth place to over 11.4 million. Elsewhere, Madden and Golf Club help give Sports a minor boost from 2.7 to 3.2 million, although it stays in fifth. Party also jumps onto the table in ninth with 850,000 thanks to Fibbage.

That's all we have time for this week. Next week, the new release excitement continues with the likes of Metro Redux and something called Stick it To The Man. I don't like the sound of that. It might start giving the Statisticles ideas...
