TA Gaming Stats - August 25th to 31st 2014

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period August 25th to August 31st 2014.

Hello all and welcome to the stats for the final week of August here on TA. Apologies that this is a couple of days late. I spent the weekend building a set of new cages bunk-beds for my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles. Unfortunately, whilst I was beavering away, I managed to get a really nasty splinter. Naturally, I had to take a few days off to fully recover.

Games Started
35,031 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 49,786 games between them (1,962 different games).

As last week's number three, Madden NFL 15 (Xbox One), gets its full release this week, it jumps from 1,600 to over 3,600. That spike in numbers puts it up into first place, above last week's number one Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition, which slips into second after taking a tumble from over 8,200 to under 2,200 starters.

On the new release front, we get an over-abundance of Metro on the table as disc bundle Metro Redux takes the number three position with almost 1,400 starters, leaving individual digital copies Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux to claim fifth and eighth with nearly 950 and over 430 starters each. The other new release of the week is one that slipped under our noses as it received little to no promotion prior to release, action-adventure platformer thing Stick it To The Man. Despite the lack of press coverage, it manages almost 500 starters in seventh place. I need to make sure the Statisticles don't notice this game, otherwise the title alone may start giving them ideas above their station.

Rounding out the table are "Games with Gold" freebies, Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut, with relatively low numbers as we reach the end of the month, and recent release http://www.trueachievements.com/Pinball-FX2-Xbox-One/ac....htm and Fibbage.

Despite over halving its numbers from 4,700 to under 2,000 starters, "Games with Gold" freebie Dishonored holds firm in first place, with no other games able to break the fabled 1,000 starter barrier. On the new release side of things, Madden NFL 15 lands in second with 750 starters whilst last week's Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition (Xbox 360) slides from 1,600 to 640 in third.

Sales dominate the rest of the table, with every single spot being taken up by a title on offer in the Summer Binge Sale. Out of the glut of titles available, Spec Ops: The Line proves most popular in fourth with almost 490 starters.

The "Season Pass" for The Walking Dead: Season Two being discounted to coincide with the release of the final episode gives the game a big boost into second with almost 460 starters, although it's not enough to topple recently free "Games with Gold" title Motocross Madness.

Can anyone explain what gives Warface its doubling of numbers this week from under 200 to over 420 starters in third? I'm sure I could find out, but splinter is aching and I may need a lie down soon.

As well as The Walking Dead: S2, the Binge sale also gives us Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Shadow Complex and The Wolf Among Us ("Season Pass" again) with between 160 and 250 starters.

The massive jump in starters for Tentacles: Enter the Mind (WP) takes the opposite turn this week as it slips from 900 to 640. However, it still easily dominates the rest of the table. Just goes to show how many WP owners are crying out for new games. They're few and far between these days. Last week's deal title, geoDefense Swarm (WP), slips from fourth to eighth with fewer than 50 starters. However, this week's offering, Real Racing 2 (WP), doesn't show up at all.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

With much fewer starters on W8, Tentacles: Enter the Mind (Win 8) can't hold onto the number one spot, slipping into third as it goes from over 110 to 80 starters. As with the WP table, this week's deal title, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (Win 8), is notably absent.

Games Completed
10,650 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 13,836 games between them (1,294 different games).

The drinking game fixing patch continues to work its magic on Watch_Dogs (Xbox One) as it manages to take exactly 260 completions again this week. As with many of the other smaller indie releases on Xbox One, Stick it To The Man and Fibbage prove to be easy completions; the former gets over 220 completions in second place and currently has a completion percentage of over 58%, whereas the latter gets almost 140 completions in third and sits at 23%.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

For an unclear reason, Borderlands 2 manages to claim the top spot this week. Although, to be fair, it's been hovering around 50 completions for the last few weeks. It's mostly there because other completions are dropping down in numbers, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts slipping from 80 to under 50 in second. The 360 version of Watch_Dogs also almost replicates its completion number, only increasing it by two with 45 completions in third.

Kablooey!! Thanks to a bunch of new people picking it up with the "Season Pass" sale coupled with the game's general popularity anyway and the anticipation for the finale, "Episode 5: No Going Back" smashes onto the top spot with over 5,000 massive completions. I played it myself and boy it was so crazy when Clem turned out to be the zombie overlord! Or was that just my ending? Seemingly in honour of this achievement, fellow Telltale titles Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead line up in second and third.

As often happens when a sequel/remake/port/whatever is on the way, the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition gets a boost in completions as people wrap it up in anticipation of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition.

With the always sad news that the server is due to close people are rushing to try and finish Ascend: Hand of Kul before the November cut-off. Not an easy task with grindy free-to-play titles like this. This boost puts the game at tenth with 40 completions.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

Not too much to see here, apart from recent release Hungry Shark Evolution (WP) making its debut at the bottom with almost 15 completions and Tentacles still keeping its seventh place spot with just under 20.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

The boost given last week to Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (Win 8) thanks to an achievement-carrying "Title Update" wears off now as it slips from first to third, below the usual top two of Microsoft Solitaire Collection (Win 8) and Microsoft Mahjong (Win 8).

Achievements Won
81,526 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 1,252,694 achievements online between them (59,854 different achievements).

A single Madden NFL achievement takes the top spot, denying Diablo its clean sweep from last week.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

Diablo can't crack the table here like it did last week, leaving Dishonored to grab the clean sweep.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

No big surprise here as all the achievements for the final episode of TWD: S2 take the top eight spots by a large margin. What is interesting is that that the final spots are taken from the preceding episode. That'll be that "Season Pass" sale at work then.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Hungry Shark steps aside this week, giving Tentacles the clean sweep.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Microsoft this, Microsoft that, Microsoft something else. Oh, and a single entry for Tentacles.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Following Role-Playing's big boot into first place last week, order is now restored again as it slips back down the table into third. Sports gets a small boost thanks to Madden, pushing it up from fourth to third. Adventure lands on the table in seventh with over 1.5 million, almost single-handedly thanks to TWD: S2.

That's all for now folks. Now I need to go and have a lie down to nurse my poor hurty finger back to health. Next week gives us a few new releases in the form of Warframe, Dance Central: Spotlight and..oh yes...this.
