BioShock Infinite Screenshots Hit The Web

BioShock Infinite Screenshots Hit The Web

Traverse the skies with Columbia

Written by DavieMarshall on 08 September 10 at 00:53

A Game Informer exclusive shows off some interesting looking screens from the forthcoming BioShock Infinite. The October edition of the publication has an exclusive insight into the world of Columbia as revealed recently by the cover image the magazine will sport.

I'm glad to see the wonderful Art Deco style has been retained for the bold new direction in the BioShock series. Looking at the screenshots we can see that this is something the game also retains through the presence of billboards and the kinds of colours and fonts used in game.

So on to the screenshots for our first peek at the environments through the eyes of gameplay stills.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I loved BioShock, and even though it was to a lesser extent, I found BioShock 2 quite the enjoyable rollercoaster too, though with fewer twists and turns along the way. Whilst I desperately want to love BioShock Infinite (especially with the format returning to it's original creator) these screenshots leave me wanting a little in some areas. The palette seems a little bright to my eye for example.

What's your take on the above?

DavieMarshall, the screenshots do look too "bright" but you have to consider the complete 180º turn this series just made.
While the other 2 bioshock were under the sea (Under the Sea! Under the Sea! *ahem*) where natural sunlight was nowhere, right now you are flying around the world with nothing but an "ocean" of blue skies. It should look all bright and colorful to fit the mood wink (or so I think laugh)

What I find curious are the existing NPCs. There's that strange cyborg but the other two screens show other people who look...dare I say, normal? One even looks like he's doing his job selling newspapers!
Another HUGE difference from the always agressive Splicers.

It looks better and better for me!

The cover for Game Informer looks great. I am far from sold on this game though. Will be waiting for at least a month from release and only with some solid reviews will I be dropping the $$.

It looks like some sort of mechanoid or like a xenomorph from Alien. Cthulu looks like a tentacled-sea creature. Also, what's with the censorship? Not too keen on deleting posts for being "unproductive."

ooh xenomorph, thats a good one. but to me it looks like a mechanical cthulu. i only see that one tube which makes me think tentacle, but it also kind of looks like it has wings too. idk thats just the first thing that came to mind.

The game is definitely looking interesting. No clue why they feel the need to keep the "Bioshock" name though (besides the obvious marketing advantage.) If they try to work this into the Bioshock timeline, I can't see myself getting too impressed with the story though.

I don't know how to feel, confused, happy, weirded out, I don't UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!! So no more Big Daddies or little sisters, and it's not underwater. I love Bioshock, but this doesn't seem like Bioshock to me, I need to know more about this game 1st, like what the hell the mechanical thing is, or what that strong man is.

I unfortunately have missed out on playing Bioshock 2, just for no reason.
So I MUST get this game to catch back up, and undoubtedly get Bioshock 2 before this is released.

Bioshock is the impossible. As long as it's "out of this world," it's Bioshock. I'm just wondering what's next.

I'm just curious how/if they're gonna work in the creepy factor. All that sun makes me sick.... Bio 1 and 2 were great, they were in the ocean and all dark and dank. I liked that.

Art Deco?

Wasn't picked up to till the 30's, in 1912 you're lookin more Art Nouveau, which definately fits that gazebo in the last screenshot. Irrational games sure do their research.

I think brightness will be a nice plasmid-fuelled change of pace, bioshock wasn't exactly scary was it?

Pedantic post to the max! laugh
