TA Gaming Stats - October 6th to 12th 2014

By Chewie,
This report is for the period October 6th to 12th 2014.

Hello TA'ers and welcome to the a Stats for early October. This week I asked one of my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, if they were interested in playing Alien: Isolation and they told me that the prospect of constant death from a large alien creature was too close to real life for them to enjoy it. I don't get it.

Games Started
37,584 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 53,373 games between them (1,871 different games).

Taking the top spot is new release Alien: Isolation (Xbox One) with nearly 4,000 starters. Not bad, for a human. Well, a game. Although it wins the table, it's worth pointing out that those numbers are quite a bit lower than the 11,300 that Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox One) pulled in last week and around 10% of the over 37,000 that Destiny (Xbox One) nabbed a few weeks prior. So, although it's good, it's nothing to get cocky about. Following close behind is free-to-play game creator Project Spark (Xbox One) with almost 3,700 starters. The week's last new release is NBA 2K15 (Xbox One), which takes sixth with almost 2,000 starters.

Despite beating out both Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (Xbox One) and Chariot in their release week last week, Forza somehow manages to slip below them this week, dropping into fifth with under 2,500 starters. As with the last couple of weeks, a few releases don't make the table at all, with Styx: Master of Shadows, Skylanders Trap Team (Xbox One) nor Divekick Addition Edition + getting enough starters to make the grade.

New "Games with Gold" freebie Battlefield: Bad Company 2 continues to rule the roost, despite slipping from 3,500 to 1,850 starters. On the new release front, the 360 versions of Alien: Isolation and NBA 2K15 take their places in second and sixth, with 600 and 300 starters apiece. Sort of interesting is the different distribution of titles on the 360 and the One, with Destiny and FIFA 15 reaching higher places on the 360 than their One iterations, which have both slipped to the low end of the table.

Two spin-offs from popular franchises that were ported from handheld consoles onto XBLA take the top spots this week thanks to recent sales. Holding onto the top spot and most of its around 300 starters, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD leads the way above Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition, which was one of many Batman-related discounts this week. Also appearing from the sale is Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, which takes eighth place with nearly 90 starters. Most of the rest of the table is the usual recent "Games with Gold" and free-to-play stuff, as well as recent release, Slender: The Arrival

The starters for Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (WP) continue to swell this week, going from 300 to over 380 at the top of the table. Age of Empires: Castle Siege (WP) sees a slip from 280 to 210 but holds onto second place, whilst FIFA 15 Ultimate Team (WP) tumbles from third into seventh. Although they've been on sale many times before, discounted ilomilo (WP) and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (WP) both show up at the bottom of the table.

We're spoiled with two new releases on W8 this week as the computer version of Project Spark (Win 8) jumps into first place with 430 starters and Zoo Tycoon Friends (Win 8) steps into third with nearly 90 after getting a soft release in a few countries. Like the WP version, FIFA 15 Ultimate Team (Win 8) slips down the table, this time from second to sixth.

Games Completed
5,701 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 7,819 games between them (1,258 different games).

In its debut week, Shadows of Mordor took a third place position on the table, suggesting it could be a relatively easy completion. This week it further cements that status by stepping up to the top and going from 110 to nearly 570 completions.

This week was seemingly the week of Xbox One DLC or achievement carrying title updates, as these give Trials Fusion (Xbox One), Zombie Driver Ultimate Edition and Sniper Elite 3 (Xbox One) spots in second, fifth, sixth and ninth. And that's without mentioning last week's DLC releases for Watch_Dogs (Xbox One), Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (Xbox One) and Titanfall (Xbox One), which keep those titles firmly on the table this week. Finally, at the bottom sits last week's new release, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments (Xbox One), with almost 50 completions.

If you weren't much of a Halo player and/or hadn't been keeping an eye on the news and forums recently, you'd be forgiven for wondering what the heck 2012's Halo 4 was doing at the top of the table with nearly 300 completions, way more than any game on the 360. Well, it's there because the folks at 343 just released a patch that fixed a selection of broken DLC achievements, allowing players who had met the requirements to start up the game and get their long overdue pops. Apparently there are still a few issues with achievements not unlocking out there, but for many players, this was a completion that had been evading them for a while.

The same DLC as on the One keeps Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare on the 360 table, pushing it up into second place with 70 completions, whilst the Sniper Elite 3 DLC puts it into sixth. Most of the rest of the table is made up of recent easyish sale titles or ones whose DLC was discounted, including Mass Effect 3, Far Cry 3 and LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.

With D-day almost upon players of Doritos Crash Course 2 in the dates these stats cover (it's dead now), the game jumps from fourth with 50 to second with over 90 completions as people rush to finish it off. Next week we'll see how many people managed to sneak in the completion in the few days before the October 15th cut-off. Similarly, although it doesn't appear here, "Ascend Watch" this week shows the game now sits at 905 completions, an increase of 19 on last week.

Easy sale title AC Liberation jumps up from tenth with 25 to third with over 80 completions, whilst other recent sale titles Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon and Beyond Good & Evil HD take ninth and tenth.

Slipping into seventh is Trials Fusion, which gets 30 completions with the release of the "Welcome to the Abyss" DLC.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

As the number of players starting Secrets & Treasure increases, so too does its completions, going from 25 to 40 this week. Easy discount title Pac-Man also shows up in seventh.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Like on the WP table, the sale for Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (Win 8) puts it in third with a very similar amount of completions.

Achievements Won
92,892 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 1,240,460 achievements online between them (58,155 different achievements).

Three titles split the table this week, with Alien taking four spots, including the top two, Forza grabbing a trio in the middle and Mordor claiming the remaining bottom three.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

Unlike last week, a single Destiny achievement denies Battlefield: BC2 the clean sweep this week. That one achievement isn't even the easiest one in the game. It's currently earned by around 50% of players.

AC Liberation owns the top half of the table, leaving Batman and The Walking Dead: Season Two to fight over the bottom half.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Age of Empires relinquishes the top spots to Secrets & Treasure, but dominates most of the rest of the table.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Although it doesn't crack the One table, Project Spark claims seven places here, leaving Age of Empires to take the remaining three.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

The joint powers of Alien and Mordor put Action-Adventure to the top of the table with almost 11.9 million, leaving Shooter and its Battlefield: BC2 support to take second with under 10.4 million. Forza continues to keep a Racing buoyed in third, whilst Special appears in eighth with 945,000 thanks to Project Spark
