TA Gaming Stats - October 13th to 19th 2014

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period October 13th to October 19th 2014.

After my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, told me last week that they didn't find the concept of Alien: Isolation scary because they already lived in fear from a single giant alien, I decided to let The Evil Within loose on them this week. It still didn't do the trick though as they explained that the horrors I expose them to on a daily basis are far scarier than anything a game could reproduce. The fact that they were saying this from within an Iron Maiden being slowly lowered into molten lava makes me think there might be something to it.

Games Started
41,950 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 58,555 games between them (1,847 different games).

The Evil Within (Xbox One) bursts out onto the top spot this week with over 3,500 starters. That's 400 down on what Alien: Isolation (Xbox One) achieved last week and way below what Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox One) and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (Xbox One) took the week before, but I suppose it's not bad for a genre title. I'd have liked to see it break 5,000 though. It does much better than two of the week's other new releases though, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition and http://www.trueachievements.com/Duck-Dynasty-Xbox-One/a....htm, neither of which make the table. The former I get because its regional release was split across two weeks so all its numbers didn't come at once. The latter I get because...well...it's Duck Dynasty. Even now, almost two weeks after release, the game has a whopping 90 starters.

The other argument against Sleeping Dogs is that it's just a port of a not particularly old 360 game. However, that doesn't stop The Walking Dead (Xbox One) getting nearly 900 starters in eighth. Although it's not a new release in itself, the release of its "Season Two" DLC puts Killer Instinct back on the table in ninth, with 700 starters.

After being added to the EA Access catalogue, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (Xbox One) gets a big boost in players, pushing it up to third with over 1,700 starters.

Who says the 360 is dead? Taking some of the most starters for the console this year, http://www.trueachievements.com/Borderlands-The-Pre-Seq....htm grabs first with over 7,200 big ones. Yes, that's twice as many as any One title this week. The other new releases don't fare quite so well, with The Evil Within taking 650 in fourth and F1 2014 settling for tenth with 200. Despite the lower numbers at the bottom, it's still more than enough to keep Duck Dynasty, which has even fewer starters on the 360 two weeks later at 70.

With the "Games with Gold" switchover taking place at the beginning of the week, new freebie Darksiders II does well, taking second with almost 4,600 starters, whilst previous offering Battlefield: Bad Company 2 slips into third with 1,000.

None of this week's RPG sale offerings tempt enough people to break onto the table.

With another release-less week, sales recent "Games with Gold" titles and free-to-play games continue to dominate XBLA. The previous week's offering, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition, takes first place with 130 starters, whilst last week's number one, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD, slides down to tenth.

Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (WP) continues to sit pretty at the top of the table despite the numbers beginning to fall this week from 380 to 270. New release Zoo Tycoon Friends (WP) takes second with 230 starters, a number that would have been no doubt higher had the game been launched in more regions than just the US. This week's deal title, Rayman Fiesta Run (WP), proves a popular one in third with 210 starters. That may be because, unlike most sale offerings recently, the game hasn't been on repeat sale very much and, when it was, it was only discounted in the US.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Zoo Tycoon Friends (Win 8) doesn't fare as well as the WP version, only getting under 80 starters in fourth place. Although, that may be due to the fact that its soft release is in Trinidad & Tobago rather than the US. Last week's new release, Project Spark (Win 8), continues to lead, despite dropping from 430 to 170 starters.

Games Completed
5,588 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 7,223 games between them (1,192 different games).

The completions for Middle Earth continue to flow in, managing to only drop by 30 this week in first place. As could be predicted after bringing its notoriously easy achievement list over to the One, The Walking Dead grabs decent numbers in second with 190 completions. The recent DLC releases for PvZ, Watch_Dogs (Xbox One) and Titanfall (Xbox One) keep them in the middle of the table with between 60 and 90 completions.

Last week Halo 4 stormed to the top of the table after some nice DLC achievement fixing by 343. This week the numbers drop from 300 to 100 but it's more than enough to keep it at the top of the table.

Elsewhere, recent sales help buoy LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, Far Cry 3, Mass Effect 3 and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.

Well that's it folks, the final surge of completions for Doritos Crash Course 2 before the game was turned off sees it take second place with just under 120 completions. That'll be the last we see of it on here, so say your farewells now. And for anyone who didn't quite get the completion, you have my sympathies. In "Ascend Watch", the game gets 20 completions and a tenth place spot. It's currently at 936 total completions so the big 1,000 should easily be achievable before the November closure.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

Last week's sale title, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (WP), jumps up to second with 20 completions whilst this week's offering, Rayman, settles for tenth with 12.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Both the sake titles on WP also appear on W8 in fourth and fifth whilst the usual two Microsoft titles continue to rule.

Achievements Won
94,045 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 1,254,787 achievements online between them (60,764 different achievements).

Although it wasn't the most started game, Middle Earth did have the most earned achievement. Actually, challenge. No, the Statisticles still haven't fixed that yet. Actually, they had told me they had fixed it, but evidently not. I think I need to crack down a little more. They've been getting away with murder recently. And usually it's just me who does that.

Anyway, Evil Within and Destiny share the rest of the table! with the former taking four spots with early game achievements and the latter taking five.

Borderlands almost claims the clean sweep were it not for a single Darksiders II achievement in seventh.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

With the recent sale titles slipping down the tables again, The Walking Dead: Season Two is allowed to retake control. What really confuses me is the presence of Cluster Buster in Hexic HD in tenth. Seriously, what's that doing there?

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

A single Zoo Tycoon achievement sits in the middle of the table, below recent top choices and above a stream of Rayman offerings.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Age of Empires: Castle Siege (Win 8) wrestles control of the table back from Project Spark, although the game maker does still claim four spots.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Evil Within keeps Actio-Adventure over 11.6 million in first whilst Borderlands kicks Role-Playing up from fifth with 2.5 to third with 5.2 million. The release of TWD on the one helps Adventure go from tenth with 650,000 to eighth with over 1.1 million.

Next week will be a musical one as The Voice, Fantasia: Music Evolved and Just Dance 2015 all fight for places on the tables. The Statisticles have already got the karaoke machines out in anticipation.
