We Are Doomed Announced for Xbox One

Canadian based developer Vertex Pop has announced that they will be bringing the arcade-style shoot-em-up WE ARE DOOMED to the Xbox One in early 2015. The twitchy shooter, which is set against a "Neon Geometric Glitch World", foregoes the trappings of modern visual design to opt instead for a retro arcade vibe. As described by the developer, it's not so much a throwback to the old style of games - it's more of an alternative modern style, one where "flat shaded, vector-based graphics rule the world".

The game has the player controlling a ship with an insanely superpowered laser beam, with one caveat - it's close range only. This forces the player to get into the thick of combat in order to succeed, reducing greatly any chance of winning by simply staying back and sniping from afar. This simple mechanic should lead to some frantic close-calls. However, the player will also be able to supercharge this laser into a superbeam in order to take out distant enemies, but there will be a charge-time before this can be performed, leaving them vulnerable.

Vertex Pop wants the player to feel the balance between risk and reward; players can decide mid-game whether they wish to race across the screen, between dangerous enemies, in order to reach a collectible. The fast paced action should supposedly have players constantly evaluating their options.

The game currently has two distinct modes configured: "Waves" mode, whereby players will battle through 30 arenas of varying intensity, and "Endless" mode, where players must survive for as long as they can against an never ending horde.

We Are Doomed promises all action, all the time (ergo, no cutscenes), with a setup that encourages repeat play; players will be able to very quickly jump straight back into the action after getting destroyed by the enemy. It is currently scheduled for an early 2015 release on Xbox One.
