Fans of the folks living in Bikini Bottom will be glad to hear that Activision will be keeping the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise alive with the newly announced title, SpongeBob HeroPants. The Xbox 360 title will continue on from the events in the yet to be seen film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water due to hit the cinemas in March this year.

Without revealing what happens in the film, Activision has given a brief synopsis of the game's storyline:
SpongeBob's dreams are coming to life and altering space and time beneath the waves. SpongeBob must join forces with his friends to unlock their hidden abilities and put back the pieces of his shattered cartoon psyche. Along the way they’ll visit alternate forms of Bikini Bottom as it is warped by SpongeBob’s mind into prehistoric, war zone and candy-coated versions of the town.

SpongeBob HeroPants contains such game elements as platforming, exploration, puzzles and combat. Players will be able to play as various characters, SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Krabs and Plankton, each of which can morph into a unique super-powered champion to solve challenges, unlock new areas and defeat SpongeBob's crazy imagination. Throughout the game players will encounter boss battles, in which they can use various upgradeable skills to their advantage. There is also a treasure trove of hidden items to unearth in the underwater world. Additionally, the game also includes four-person local drop-in/drop-out cooperative multiplayer.

The game will appear on the Xbox 360 some time next month.
