Evolve Details Day One Patch

By Ashley Woodcock, 1 year ago
There's less than 24 hours (for some of the world) left until the highly anticipated release of Turtle Rock Studios' Evolve is upon us. Day one of the game's release will see a patch going live for the title straight away. The recent open beta allowed gamers to check out the game before the final product releases tomorrow and also provided a chance for the developers themselves to iron out any kinks or issues. The team has released details of the day one patch that looks to tweak balancing, fix general bugs, and plenty more. Here's the list:

Balancing tweaks

We already noted this in an interview with Turtle Rock’s Chris Ashton, but we are constantly adjusting things in the background so that every Hunter and every Monster is finely tuned. What we learned about what’s being done to Wraith alone was eye-opening. (Check out the Open Beta infographic and Q&A here.) A lot of the data gathered from the Big Alpha and Open Beta weekends helped us make these tweaks.

Game and level-loading optimizations

As we strive to push the engine and cram as much as possible into your Evolve experience, we’re also working are to optimize performance on your system. These improvements range from load times to improving matchmaking and network bandwidth optimizations.

General Bug Fixes

During the Big Alpha and Open Beta periods we asked you – our community – for your help and feedback. We are addressing bugs found during our tests and we have you to thank for making Evolve that much stronger with this patch.

New elite skins

After the Big Alpha, we wanted to rework the Elite skins for Hunters and Monsters based on feedback we got from the community. The results of those requests are right here in this patch. We’ve updated or outright replaced the assets that were already in the game. All you need to do to unlock them: EARN THEM. Learn more here.

Connectivity to the Evolve Hunters Quest app

This patch adds connectivity to work with Evolve Hunters Quest. We recently unveiled the game / companion app for Evolve. In one respect, it’s a fun Match-3 puzzle combat game. But it also has ties into the main console game through the my2K servers. Earn experience and watch overhead match replays through the app. Best of all, it’s free for iOS, Android and Windows Phone. The patch will be around 3GB in size "depending on your system".

The first of the eight videos we have to share showcases a frightening game of hide and seek. Four friends set out into the chilling darkness to find their friend. Once they find him, however, he has evolved into something that they probably would have rather not found instead. Featuring music by Scala and Kolacny Brothers with 'Ready or Not', check out the video and enjoy:

Chloe from the Turtle Rock Studios team talks to us about talking in this second video. As many of us know, communication is key when it comes to working in a team. There's nothing more painful than trying to overcome your opponents when the comrades your are working with don't even have their mic plugged in! Chloe provides us with top tips on communication whilst working with three other hunters to take down the terrifying monster:

Fight or Flight is the question in this third video. There's no shame in fleeing from a battle when necessary. Chloe provides more Turtle Rock tips and schools us on the best times to fight or flee as both the monster and the hunters!

Chloe continues to pump us full of Turtle Rock tips. One major part of the monster's success will be ensuring it has its most important meal of the day. Breakfast, lunch/dinner and dinner/tea all in one with whatever animal or/and human into which it can gets its claws and teeth. If you want more abilities and power and want to grow to be a big monster, you've got to eat everything on your plate.

The fifth video moves away from the tips and takes us to a three hour livestream with the Amazon team. The guys enjoy some intense action in Evolve while talking about all the goodness to come tomorrow for the rest of the world. The team did experience some technical issues with their stream so only three of their original four hours were exported onto YouTube. You can check out the full stream right here.

Getting back to the Turtle Rock tips, Chloe's at it again and talks to us about the importance of sneaking as the monster. Sneak and use the element of surprise to catch the hunters off guard. Beware of the birds though! A massive, scaly monster is still sure to scare the smaller creatures of the planet, despite the fact that it may creeping on its tip toes.

Chloe hits us with another flawless video of commentary this time with tips on "Strikes". In the video, she talks about the shield of the monster as well as the health of both the monster and hunter.

In the final video, Chloe hits us one more time with tips on the hunters' jetpack. The monster is naturally faster than any of the hunters but the jetpack allows hunters to traverse over terrain that would otherwise take longer to go around. Check out the video for the last set of tips on helping you to become a better hunter.
