Dragon Age: Origins Saves Importable to DA2

Dragon Age: Origins Saves Importable to DA2

Not your precious character, though!

Written by Saint Devourer on 06 October 10 at 21:00

I once had a silly dream where I would be able to transfer my Dragon Age: Origins character into it's upcoming sequel, Dragon Age 2, and be able to continue the adventures of Spencer, my ineptly named elf rogue. Stupid, right?

Well not all hope is lost, at least. Speaking to NowGamer, lead designer Mike Laidlaw shared that while you wouldn't be able to import your character directly, you will be able to import the "world" of that character. Basically, that means that the decisions that your character made will carry over, whether that meant you sided with the (spoiler) or the (spoiler), you'll see the consequences of your actions in Dragon Age 2.

As always, you don't NEED a Dragon Age: Origins save to play the sequel, but if you WANTED to, you can always pick up the recently announced Ultimate Edition, which comes with every little bit of DLC ever made for the game. The Ultimate Edition will be available on the 26th of October.

Dragon Age 2 will hit retail shelves on March 8th and March 11th, for North America and Europe respectively.

Nifty sauce, I wonder how this will effect the game as opposed to a brand new game.

This gives me hope for the next game actually since it means that they're not totally abandoning the first game and gives some hope that a third game, or expanasion ala Awakenings, will let me make my own character again. Although I do hope that this is a bit more substantial than the "thousands of decisions" Mass Effect reads from your saves. I don't want cameo appearances by NPCs, I want appreciable impact.

Loved DA 1, but I've learned to wait for the "ultimate edition" this time considering how much extra I've had to pay/will have to pay for all the DLC. Fool me once shame on EA, fool me twice shame on me.

Wow, Dragon Age was about the most boring game ever made. And the combat was made by someone that was off their meds. How can the world love such over rated crap? I must say the loot was good though, plenty of stuff to wear and choose from.

That makes me so happy, I was really hoping they'd be able to do something like this.

(on a side note, is the box art for DAO Ultimate Edition the UGLIEST thing you've ever seen or what?)

That sounds awesome for story continuity, but I'd still like to see some import bonuses like those offered in Mass Effect 2. If not bonus levels, gold, or equipment, then a little free DLC would be nice!

Let's hope it's better than ME2's implementation of the feature which did everything it could to brush your choices under the carpet and was very disappointing.

Very good news. I'll be picking up Ultimate Edition when it hits shelves. That will hold me over until DA:O 2 comes out.

Got Dragon Age on release, only played it a little before putting it on the back burner, because i need to be in the mood for RPG's. Lately ordered my Dragon Age Ultimate Edition because really, it's a bargan! Soo i'll hold off on DA2 and see how many add-on packs are released before getting it. I'm thinking another Ultimate Edition by this time next year!!
Damn! Never thought of that!!!!!!

News is kinda cold, but I'm excited none the less. I love this new trend in rpg gaming, wish they implimented this years ago for sequels. >_> "We just saved the world from the most powerful threat ever! But in a year, we'll be fragile, poor, and equipmentless!"
