More Fortified Details Revealed

After being announced last month at GDC, developer Clapfoot has given us more details on their upcoming tower defense/third-person shooter title Fortified. The game is set in a 1950's sci-fi movie that puts you and up to three friends against an invading force of alien robots.

Fortified focuses on teamwork while containing elements of both tower defense games and third-person shooters. The game begins with you setting up your defenses to stop the aliens from destroying the Earth. However, once the enemy is approaching you will be tasked with fighting them off yourself using one of the games four playable characters, each boasting a unique skill set. First you have the Rocket Scientist, a woman who is equipped with a jet-pack, giving her more maneuverability than the other characters. Next is the Agent, a character who relies on his knowledge of the enemy in order to exploit their weaknesses. Then there is the Captain, a Marine Captain whose best friend is his weapon, which he uses to punch as many holes through the enemy as possible. Last but not least, you have the Spaceman, who is said to be a man of heroic courage.

On top of the tower defense and third-person shooter aspects of the game, there is also A.I. controlled troops that can be commanded on the battlefield. This gives the player the option of using both passive and active defensive units, allowing for more flexibility to take out the alien robot scum. Each enemy in the game has a weakness that can be exploited through either your tower defense objects, or your weapons, and it will be up to the player to decide whether to focus more assets on the defense elements, or rely more on their skill in third-person shooters to take out the enemy.

Fortified does not have an official release date yet, but is expected to hit Xbox One later this year.
