TA Gaming Stats - June 2015

By Chewie, 1 year ago
This report is for the period June 1st to June 30th.

Welcome to the resurrection of monthly stats here on TA. With the recent changes to the layout of these stats articles to be arranged by platform, making them quicker and easier to organise and write, it made sense to give my Ewok helpers the Statisticles a good old kick to the sternum and get these monthly round-ups back out there.

The Big Numbers
147,184 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 413,103 games between them (2,725 different games).

23,402 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 51,797 games between them (2,220 different games).

190,472 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 8,604,264 achievements online between them (84,353 different achievements).

Xbox One
Three new big releases dominate the numbers and claim all the spots on Achievements Won. Batman: Arkham Knight and The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited were always going to be popular, with both taking over 27,000 starters. MASSIVE CHALICE manages to claim a big 23,000 though by virtue of it being released for free under Games with Gold.

Other new releases include LEGO Jurassic World, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, Elite: Dangerous (under the Preview Program). Unfortunately, a heap of others don't make the table, including Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, Sparkle Unleashed, The Swapper and SteamWorld Dig.

A free week of EA Access to celebrate the inclusion of Titanfall in the program helps push that game and plenty of other EA titles onto the table, including Need for Speed Rivals, Battlefield 4, NHL 15, FIFA 15, Peggle 2 and EA SPORTS UFC.

DLC releases help give the completions of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Forza Horizon 2 and Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition a boost into seventh, thirteenth and seventeenth on the Completed table. Other highly completed titles include easy sale titles Pneuma: Breath of Life, Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition and MONOPOLY Plus. The only new releases to make the Completed table are LEGO Jurassic World and The Swapper, which is the fourteenth most completed title despite not making the started table.

Xbox 360
As one might expect, Games with Gold rules the 360 with the month's two titles Just Cause 2 and THIEF (Xbox 360) grabbing 9,100 and 5,800 starters above other previous offerings. They also share out all but one of the Achievements Won with F1 2013 sneaking in one spot in eighteenth.

New release LEGO Jurassic World (Xbox 360) is the fifth most started and seventh most completed title whilst both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas appear on both the Started and Completed tables thanks to the buzz around the Fallout 4 announcement.

As with on the One, DLC gives Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Xbox 360) a boost in completions, this time as the sixth most completed title whilst Just Cause 2 manages to be the fourth most completed title despite retaining a relatively low completion percentage (5%) thanks purely to the massive boost in players.

It might seem surprising to see Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Burning Earth on there but remember that there were two major site contests running throughout the month with GTASC and Leap Frog.

The announcement of Backwards Compatibility at this year's E3 has a significant effect on XBLA with BattleBlock Theater, Toy Soldiers: Cold War, Hexic HD and many others appearing thanks to the new feature. Those three are very popular with between 940 and 1,600 starters, along with Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series (Xbox 360), which is the second most started game thanks to the first episode being made free. Despite that, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition remains the most played game by far, claiming all but one of the Achievements Won and taking the top spot on Completed with 580 completions.

Surprisingly, XBLA also saw a new release this month and, although it doesn't appear on Started, an easy completion puts Monster Jam Battlegrounds as the nineteenth most completed game with approaching 50 completions.

Released to Windows this month, four months after the Windows Phone version, free-to-play title Make It Rain: The Love of Money (Win 8) smashes onto the table with almost 1,300 starters, over twice as many as any other title. It's also easily the most completed title and, entirely sweeping Achievements Won, the most played.

Also released was Dragon Mania Legends (Win 8) in second with much fewer starters though it did appear much later in the month.

Windows Phone
New release What in the World? (WP) pulls the same trick as Make It Rain over on Windows Phone, smashing all three tables completely, including a big fat 5,500 starters, which is more than many games on the other platforms. Dragon Mania Legends (WP) was also released to WP and manages second with over 1,400 starters. So was Lines The Game (WP), but it has to settle for sixth with only 500, again showing that having a price tag rather than being free-to-play has quite the effect.

Thanks for tuning in to the monthly stats revival. Next month we'll see how these tables get flipped though I don't believe any new July releases will quite match Batman: Arkham Knight and The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.
