On November 22nd 2005, the Xbox 360 arrived in stores, along with 18 launch titles and a total of 415 available "achievements".Xbox gamers' lives would never be the same again.
On July 31st, 2015, the total published achievement list reached 100,000. We thought we should celebrate this milestone by bringing you the TrueAchievements Analysis of the first 10 years of Xbox Achievements
As you might have guessed, the most popular value for an achievement is 10 GamerScore
! What you may not have guessed is that there are over 1,000 (that’s over 1% of the total) zero pointers, and also over 1,000 thirty-five pointers! Note: You can click the bars to view the lists of achievements worth those scores.
With an 8 year head start over its successor, the Xbox 360 has the vast majority (over 75%) of the available achievements. Xbox One is now running in second with almost 15%. Windows is currently last of the Microsoft platforms, but we would expect it to claim more of a share with the launch of Windows 10 and the closer integration of the Xbox platform.
This year looks to be the biggest for achievement releases - we’ve extrapolated the data for the first 7 months of the year based on the previous years, and we estimate a cool 16,819 achievements will be released this year
. That’s over 2,000 more than 2011, the previous highest. Note the interesting drop off in 2012/13 as developers prepared for the Xbox One launch.
We’ve broken down all of the achievements by genre. Action is out in front, shortly followed by Action-Adventure, with Shooter in third. RPGs only make up around 7% of the total achievements, but I guess they make up for that by taking ten times as long to unlock!
Of course here at TrueAchievements
we don’t just give you the basic achievement information - we pride ourselves on delving much deeper than that. We've split the 100,000 achievements into groups containing the percentage of gamers that have unlocked them:
The sad story here is that the largest sector is the 0-10% one, meaning that over 18,000 achievements have been unlocked by less than 10% of gamers with the game. In second place is the 11-20% sector - come on people, UP YOUR GAME
Despite that, the average percentage of gamers that have won each achievement is 39.0%
As much as some gamers complain about DLC, it only makes up 6.15% of the total achievements -- that includes free DLC and Title Updates!
As any TrueAchievements
member will tell you, unobtainable achievements are a completionist's worst nightmare. Currently, 2.79% of achievements are unobtainable, made up of 1.08% that have never been obtainable and 1.71% that are discontinued (usually due to server closures). Most Won Achievements
These are the top 5 most won achievements, with the top 4 being in different games:
The Landfall achievement in Halo 3 worth 21 pointsFinish the first mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary. The Star Gazer achievement in Hexic HD worth 5 pointsForm a cluster of three bonus-star pieces.
Hexic HD takes 2 of the spots mainly due to the game coming pre-installed on Xbox 360 hard drives.
We are proud to have been a part of the Xbox Achievement landscape for the last eight years and we will continue to bring you detailed analysis of everything Xbox-related for many more years to come.If you would like to see a visual representation of this data please click here.
