Elite: Dangerous Launching In Full This September

Frontier Developments had a lot to share at Gamescom this week regarding their space flight and fight simulator, Elite: Dangerous. The storied franchise's latest game was one of a pair of titles to launch Microsoft's Game Preview program back in June. Some of you reading might have already logged countless hours in the far reaches of space. The full game will be debuting on Xbox One this September, Frontier announced.

As for gameplay expansions, there are several on the way. The Close Quarters Combat (CQC) Championship update will launch this fall simultaneously when the game departs Game Preview and hits the store in full. There is another massive expansion on the way as well, titled Horizons. This update to the game will add several new features over the course of the next year. First among them will be all new planetary landings, complete with varied terrain, mysteries, raids, and plenty of rewards. This will also bring a new Surface Recon Vehicle (SRV) that allows explorers to "detect signals, crashed ships, mineral deposits, outposts and fortresses, and embark on raids on the surface" alone or with friends. The Horizons package will be sold separately from the original Elite: Dangerous. A $15 discount off of Horizons' $59.99 price tag will be available to PC players who have the original base game. The studio did not yet confirm if this would be the case when Horizons eventually comes to Xbox One as well.

On the heels of all of those announcements come a trio of videos -- a teaser, a tutorial, and a proper trailer.

As it is part of Game Preview, you can download Elite: Dangerous and play a free 60 minute trial.
