The gameplay modes that we've checked
for DICE's upcoming Star Wars Battlefront
have already proved that there will be a large variety on offer once the game's released. More details on another mode have been revealed however, as this time around we take a look at Supremacy mode.
Rounds of Supremacy can go on for as long as 10 minutes, or less, if one of the teams manage to gain and maintain control of the five control points spread out across the map. At the beginning of the match, each team will control two of the five points and will move towards the center of the map to control the final one in the centre. This sounds like a similar style to Battlefield
's Conquest mode but once the center point has been gained, the other control points will then need to be claimed in a set order. With this style of play, the action will take place on just two control points at a time - one for each team, so this means no super-flanks for you crafty players out there!
For those looking for that "all-out" multiplayer action, Supremacy is going to be the mode for you. Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall, promises that the action will be heavy and full-on:When you spawn into Supremacy, you don’t have to move far to see a lot of friends – and enemies. You’re thrown into a massive frontline, where your screen is filled with adversaries: infantry, Heroes, Walkers, and starfighters. You can prepare for very heavy and focused Star Wars™ action.
The Supremacy game mode will be suited for both defending and attacking style players. Thanks to the action only taking place at two control points at a time, both teams will be in the thick of the fight whether attacking or defending as the intensity will have that frontline feel throughout.
"Almost all vehicles" in the title will take part in Supremacy, including TIE fighters and X-wings blasting through the sky looking to do damage to the opposing team on the ground in an effort to assist with controlling the point. The iconic Heroes and Villains will take part in the fight too and use their unique abilities to turn the tide of the battle in their favour. Dennis drops some knowledge on the advantages of some of the characters players can take control of:Using a character like Darth Vader to secure control points is great, as he can take increased damage before going down. Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett are great for moving swiftly between attacking and defensive positions, and giving you the edge against opponents in battle.
The largest maps will be found in Supremacy mode. As mentioned earlier, the ability to capture various points will feel familiar to DICE players. Ironically, Dennis happens to be a member of the Battlefield
team and can actually confirm the similarities between the upcoming Supremacy mode, and the legendary Conquest game mode from Battlefield
.Supremacy is a game mode that will excite fans of the Conquest mode from Battlefield. That said, we’ve made several tweaks to improve the formula. You will always spawn close to the action when you enter Supremacy, so you’ll never feel isolated from the fight. By focusing on one key point at a time, players not playing the objective and camping on a hill somewhere will be a rare sight.
There's going to be so much going on during the mad matches to come in Supremacy. Vehicles will be firing, special characters will be flattening entire teams, and there will be the typical barrage of gunfire and explosives going off. Dennis finishes off this delivery of details with his personal favourite experience so far with the gameI really like Supremacy on Endor. With all the battles on ground and among the trees, the fights are always intense and fun. An Ewok village is the central point, and there are many different ways of getting into those huts. That kind of verticality is really interesting.
Lead your team to victory in Supremacy when Star Wars Battlefront
releases for the Xbox One on November 19th.
