Music played a huge part in the success of Afro Samurai
, and in the upcoming Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma
, Redacted Studios and Versus Evil are hoping to take that a step further by allowing upcoming hip-hop artists the chance to create their own songs inspired by the game. Winners will have their tracks included in the official soundtrack for Volume 3, which will hopefully take them one step closer to being discovered. Full details of the contest can be found here
Recently one hip-hop star that has already made it to the big time, Big Sean, got the chance to try the game for himself and talk about its soundtrack, and how the competition can help give opportunities to lesser known artists.I’m all about giving people opportunities. I think a lot of new talent will be discovered through things like this. What I appreciate about Afro Samurai 2 is that it’s good music, good rap music, good storytelling. It takes it back to the basics of hip-hop. The music helps tell the story.
David Robinson, lead designer on Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma
and President and Founder of Redacted Studios had this to say about the game's unique blend of hack and slash action and hip-hop music. ...we have the rap which comes and tells the story of the scene you’re actually playing—and that’s what makes it a phenomenal integration of sight and sound. It’s literally a hip-hop opera. You’re listening to the rap because it’s telling you what’s going on in the story that you are playing.Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma
volume 1 is already available for digital download on PC, and PS4, and will be coming soon to the Xbox One. For more information about the game, visit www.afrosamuraigame.com
