LA Noire - Debut Trailer

It's been all quiet on the LA Noire front for a while now. Announced back in 2005, details about the Team Bondi-developed and Rockstar-published game have been sparse and infrequent.

Shattering that silence completely, Rockstar have today finally released a stunning trailer for the game, embedded below.

Made "entirely from in-game footage," the trailer shows off Team Bondi's incredible performance capture and facial animation technology, offering some of the most believably realistic characters any open world game has seen before.

The game, for those unaware, has been described by Rockstar as "the first game to really explore what it means to be a detective, and offers players the opportunity to solve crimes blending classic action, investigation and interrogation, in the endless pursuit of what's right."

Set in the painstakingly accurate 1940s Los Angeles, the game is a homage to classic noir films, serving up jazz-laden soundtracks, cool ambience and distinctive, intuitive lighting. The game borrows heavily from classic film noir of the 40's and 50's, seeing you play as cop Cole Phelps as he works his way up the ladder through detective work and crime scene investigation, in a perfectly recreated cinematic open world.

The sophisticated motion capture technology - recording real actors and processing all their actions, voicework and looks into the game - is central to the gameplay, as players can judge their expressions and behaviour to determine whether the perp they're squeezing is dealing the truth.

As the trailer reveals, the game is scheduled for release in Spring 2011.
