Star Wars Battlefront Battle of Jaaku DLC Details

By Ashley Woodcock,
EA teased us with a trailer for the "Battle of Jakku" DLC in Star Wars Battlefront earlier this month. Since then, the game has been released and judging from the community ratings, our Official Review, and reviews and ratings from other outlets, most gamers are having a lot of fun with the title. The fun doesn't look to stop anytime soon as DICE and EA waste no time revealing new details for the recently teased DLC along with a single piece of concept art from the upcoming Battle:

SWBF DLC Art

In the artwork above, a Star Destroyer has crash landed, and from the belly of this battle-scarred metal giant, a myriad of Imperial ground troops have evacuated and engaged with Rebel troops, also strangers to this desert planet.

This intensity of battle was one of the aspects that DICE Concept Artist Anton Grandert wanted to convey when creating the Jakku artwork. The size difference between the visual elements was another.
The upcoming and highly anticipated film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will feature a battle-scarred landscape within Jakku. In the upcoming DLC, gamers will fight amongst the remote desert planet in a battle that takes place in the aftermath of the Rebel's victory in the Battle of Endor. Players will get to experience the key events that made Jakku the war-torn and beaten location that it is now.

Included with the new map is the new game mode "Turning Point". Up to 40 players will join the battle as the new mode showcases how the Rebel Alliance managed to defeat the Empire following the Battle of Endor. Dennis Brännvall provides more details:

At the edge of the map, the Empire has constructed a make-shift base as well as smaller fortifications strewn across the landscape. Following an emergency landing, the Rebels need to locate the enemy bases to attack and take control of them all.
Those playing on the Rebels team will need to locate and successfully capture one of three control points that will be in Imperial control. The Rebels will be racing against the clock but upon succeeding, additional time is added and new control points will be available for the Rebels to capture. If the Rebels continue to succeed with successfully capturing each point, the end goal will be the Empire's base where one final stand will be the difference between victory or losing it all.

In terms of vehicles included in Turning Point, Starfighters wont make an appearance besides maybe as pretty visuals in the battle above or destroyed on the ground. Airspeeders and AT-STs will be the main vehicles of the new mode with the AT-ST being the defensive vehicle of choice. Players will need to keep moving between the different areas to efficiently defend against the constant waves of Rebel Soldiers. For those driving the Airspeeder, offence is the way forward as these nippy vehicles will be handy for providing supportive fire for your team mates.

Visually, DICE and EA are confident the scenery will impress:

The peripheral action on the larger map - Graveyard of Giants - is truly a great visual spectacle. The battles are ever-present; debris will be falling from the skies, and you’ll even see a Super Star Destroyer come crashing down during the round.
If the Rebels capture a control point, the Empire can not reclaim it. Also, if a capture point is down to 25% left to be claimed, but the Empire manage to briefly clear the area out, the captured percentage will remain the same. This opens up the opportunity for teams to take different tactical approaches. The Empire may decide that this capture point isn't worth defending anymore and move to a different location. The Rebels may continue to attack this point with it being so weak or take advantage of the possibly increased defence to sneak off to a different capture point.

The "Battle of Jakku" DLC will be available in Star Wars Battlefront on December 1st for those who pre-ordered the game. Those who didn't pre-order, can join the battle one week later.
