Starbreeze Reveals Crossfire, Delays Walking Dead

Any gamers still circling their calendars in permanent ink really need to invest in some dry-erase markers. Another release window has been pushed back, this time coming from Starbreeze Studios' satellite developer, Overkill, and their game, OVERKILL's The Walking Dead. The game was previously expected to arrive sometime this year. The announcement comes alongside several other bullet points which provide context for the delay.

Starbreeze and Asian publishing house, Smilegate, have reached a mutual agreement that will see works from the far east coming west, and vice versa. Smilegate is the publisher of Crossfire, a massively popular game in Asian markets "with 500 million users". The free-to-play series hasn't penetrated western markets, but the publisher hopes to change that by assigning Starbreeze the task of creating an all-new game in the series with release plans for North America and Europe.

On the flip side of that agreement comes the delay. As we receive this new IP here in the west, so too will Starbreeze premiere some of their others in the east. Both Payday 2 and Overkill's The Walking Dead will launch in Asia. Because TWD is not yet out even in its originally intended locations, the game will be delayed until the second half of 2017 to allow for a simultaneous release across all markets. Neither a release window nor an official name were announced for Crossfire.

Are you anxious to get your hands on either of these upcoming shooters?
