Child's Play is a non-profit charity organization - created by Mike and Jerry of Penny-Arcade.com in 2003 - that has grown to the point where it will surpass over a million dollars worth of donations each year. Hospital pediatric wards put up wish lists on Amazon for items that their patients can use while staying in the hospital. Hospital budgets usually do not include a section for a Nintendo DS, or a DVD copy of Toy Story 2, and that is where Child's Play steps in.
My wife and I donate every year to Child's Play instead of buying gifts for one another. We do this because as a baby, my wife had a multitude of health problems, culminating in open heart surgery at the age of 4. Her earliest memories are all of being in the long term care section of pediatric wards, but in particular, she remembers Shands Children's Hospital in Gainesville Florida. She remembers being bored with only paper and crayons to keep herself entertained between surgeries. That is why we donate to the Shands Children's Hospital through Child's Play every year.
