It's been just under a month since the Windows 10 version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
released. While not anywhere near as popular as the Xbox One version, there's still been a few votes for the game giving it a current 4.8/5 stars. To keep the experience as enjoyable as possible for those putting in the work on the harsh killing fields of Gears
, developer The Coalition has released an update for the title that looks to address various issues with texture, visuals, and plenty more. Take a look at the list for all the details:• Ultra-wide resolutions (2560x1080 and 3440x1440) added to the game.
• Pipeline state object cache optimizations to reduce hitches during level transitions.
• Fixed a bug that could cause full Unreal garbage collect unnecessarily, leading to minor visual hitches.
• Fixed a visual corruption bug that would rarely affect NVIDIA cards when changing resolutions and VRAM became over committed.
• Added support for setting anisotropic filtering level through the INI file.
• Fixed lack of mouse input when using lowest mouse sensitivity and fully zoomed in with sniper rifle and moving the mouse very small amounts.
• Adjustments to low (1GB VRAM) texture setting.
• Added ability to toggle an FPS counter. Press the “Delete” key at any time to turn the counter on/off.
How to edit the INI
1. Open windows explorer, in the address bar type %localappdata% and press enter.
2. This will take you to your user specific app data storage. Find the "Packages" folder and double click it.
3. Find the folder containing "Microsoft.DeltaPC" and double click it.
4. Navigate to LocalState\WarGame\Config
5. There will be one file in this folder called WinUAPWarEngineUserSettings.ini
6. Through this file you can edit the engine settings used by the game. There are a bunch in here already.
7. At the bottom of the file you will see a setting called "BasedOn", this is the INI higher up the chain that has more settings in it, you can find it in the games install directory (under WindowsApps, which you'll have to take ownership of to get access).
- Some of the INI settings will have no direct effect (TextureLODSettings, vsync to name a few).
- Unreal INI's are an override system, so if you can find the setting higher up the INI chain (all the way to BaseEngine.ini) then you should be able to override it here and see what happens.
- I don't think you can edit non engine INI settings here, but you can experiment and find out.
- Online INI settings will be reset every time you go online.
